I was told that the services in FiOS' triple play package should not affect each other. A few days ago I had a high definition video on demand (VOD) movie playing. At the same time, I was downloading a 500mb file from an FTP server. The FTP transfer indicated that my download speeds were close to my advertised 15 Mbps rate. While downloading, I noticed that the hi-def VOD movie started "stuttering" with all sorts of video artifacts showing on the screen. The movie became unwatchable.
I stopped the FTP transfer and the movie went back to normal. I then decided to check the quality of service (QoS) on my FiOS router. It indicated no QoS enabled (the default setting). I decided to switch it to the Triple Play profile and specified my download and upload speeds. I restarted the router and tried watching a hi-def VOD and doing the same file transfer. The behavior persisted.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
I don't often use FTP transactions, so it is not that big of a deal. However, I'd like to hear other similar experiences before pinging tech support.
