dynamic dns function blocked for changeip.com??

using the default fios internet dns servers(71.242.0.12, 71.252.0.12) - it seems the actiontec routers "dynamic dns update" for the ddns service "changeip.com" seems to be blocked.

it always fails, saying "not updated" - when you try to run the dynamic dns on the router - to update the "changeip.com" service.

changeip.com tech support does not see the ddns command at all from my ip addr.

only if i change to alternate dns servers does the ddns update now pass through to the changeip.com people.

why is this function blocked by verizon??

While I do not know why that is happening, I will tell you what I noticed...

When I used the tool from http://www.grc.com/dns/operation.htm

Those DNS Servers showed up as Orange.

Perhaps, that has something to deal with it?

Does the service attempt to update the reverse lookup tables? Not permitted by Verizon on a dynamic address. It could be they are attempting to update the Verizon DNS servers so it is being blocked. If it gets through using another DNS server, it is not being blocked but just not listed in Verizon's DNS for some reason. If you can ping their IP, it is not being blocked.

both verizon dns servers show a context/status message of:
Bad domain names are intercepted by provider

very interesting.. that is probably the issue.
