Fios In Only One Room?

I just moved into an apartment with a couple and they already have internet and phone hooked up. I want to have my own internet and am planning on getting the faster Fios Plan. I was wondering if Verizon is able to hook it up so only my room has the internet and the owners are still able to use their own internet and all their things as usual without mine interferring with theirs. Is that possible?

If you're saying the owners of the apartment already have FIOS and you want a separate FIOS installation in your room, then no, you can't do that.

If they're willing to share their internet connection, then there are ways to extend their internet connection to your room.

Wireless is the most obvious way.
A MOCA brdige is another.

*sigh* No. They do not have Fios. They have SBC global dsl, and its the veryyy basic kind. It only has 1 mb download speed and .14 mb upload speed. I am currently borrowing their internet (so yes, i already know how to share their internet), but its so **bleep** slow.

That's why im wondering if im able to get Verizon Fios hooked up only into my room without it messing with their internet and phone in which they have theirs set up with a different company.

Is that possible?

You may be in luck. Since they have a different company for their DSL, then it should be possible to have fios installed without affecting them. But I'd double check to make sure FIOS is available. In most areas that I have seen Verizon and SBC areas do not overlap often. SBC is generally ATT territory. But so long as FIOS is available, then there shouldnt be too much issue. It would be another story altogether if they had Verizon DSL. Verizon will only run 1 type of service to a house. And once upgraded to FIOS, you cant go back to Verizon DSL any longer. But since they have SBC this should be a non issue.

One other thing to consider is that Verizon is going to have to run a fiber line from the street to the house. Typically this means digging in the yard (unless your in an area still using Aerial wires) and it is also going to have an ONT, PSU, and BBU installed. You will want to make sure your landlords are OK with this.

As others have pointed out, the main issue is likely to be FiOS availability in the area. There is no problem with FiOS co-existing with copper land line services. I have FiOS internet and TV, but still have a copper pair for the landline. The wiring to make the landline FiOS runs to the connection block (my house is too old to have an NID), but is not connected. Some day it may be, but today it isn't.

I do know that Verizon will not allow a single residential account to have both DSL and FiOS Internet Service.

Also if you are living in an apartment complex, FiOS may have to be installed via a Multi-Dwelling-Unit ONT, which causes some other issues,

You probably need to call Verizon Sales and ask if FiOS is available in your area, and then asked if they are willing to delivery it. If it requires putting holes in a wall, you will probably need the landlord's permissions. Also keep in mind the ONT needs electrical power (and costs about $1/month) to run. It must be placed within about 10 feet of the electrical service box. The ONT can be installed either inside or outside the house. That's usually your choice.

You didn't give any indication where you live.

If the apartment owners have SBC DSL, then you're out of luck since FIOS is not available in AT&T areas, except in a very limited overbuild area in Texas.
