My mother is looking to switch from Directv to Fios due to the current offers and I am trying to make sure she is all set before she orders. The biggest dilemma I am seeing is she has older wiring and running new lines will be a pain. The Directv lines can't be used because the installer mounted the multiswitch on the side of the house instead of the attic so she has no central hub with good cables. Her old coax lines do reach a central point in the attic but it is no where near the ONT or the router which are on opposite sides of the house. Also I believe I was told when I got my internet install the installers aren't allowed to go into attics unless it has a floor. Is this still the case?
The other potential issue I see is her ONT is on one side of the house and her current router and computer are on another. At the same time the existing old wire, not the directv, comes together in a completely seperate location which is going to result in a multiple holes throughout the house. I assume they will need to run coax to the office where the router is now which is currently on cat5e to feed video, and then run coax off the router to the spot where her old cables meet up where they will be connected by the splitter. Am I correct in this and if so would this be covered under the basic installation?
I realize the installers may look at it and see other options but I don't especially without doing all new drops or short of making a closet a central hub which also involves running multiple lines. Mind this also assumes the old cable meets the standards and doesn't require replacing.
