This board is for all the installation issues asssociated with Media Manager.
I downloaded the media manager software and installed it on an XP laptop. It works fine, no problem. I then downloaded the software and installed on my wife's vista laptop and can not get it to work. Well, it works partially, the MMDVR sees the machine and I can view the demonstration pictures over my network. However, I can not add any pictures to the MM program. The add screen comes up and I am allowed to sellect files or folders to be added, but the "add" "next" buttons disappear. There is no way to actually save the added file or folder to the multi media screen. I have uninstalled the software and re-installed it. That did not help. I wonder if this is a vista problem? Any other ideas.\?
Thanks
Ray
What version of Vista (32 Bit or 64 BIt) are you using.
I believe that the software does not support the 64 bit version.
The Trial Version (9.2.70) is now available in Production (9.2.70). Thenew version can be downloaded from:
http://www36.verizon.com/fiostv/MyAccount/members/MediaManager.aspx
There was a STB Announcement about new functionality that is included in the new version.
Here are the system requirements that they have posted:
Verizon sent a software version 9.2 upgrade of Media Manager and the new upgrade is unable to launch on my Windows Vista computer.
The prior version of Media Manager worked on my computer before, but the new software upgrade does not open on my computer.
Has anyone had any issues with the new software upgrade? How was the issue resolved? I have spent 6 plus hours with Verizon and the issue has not been resolved.
I have lost access to photos and music stored on Media Manager as a result of the new software upgrade.
I am also having the same problem with the new software 9.2 upgrade on my Vista Computer.
The prior Media Manager software worked on my Vista computer, but not the new 9.2 software upgrade that Verizon sent to me. As a result of the new 9.2 software, I have lost access to photos and music stored on my DVR.
I have called Verizon and spent over 6 plus hours, but no one has been able to resolve this issue. The Verizon Tech's had remote access to my computer and they un-installed and re-installed the software and the Media Manager did not launch on my computer.
I am frustrated with this problem. I hope someone from Verizon will see this message and resolve this issue soon for us Vista users.
New to Verizon FIOS service. I have an HP MediaSmart home server with all of my music, photos and videos on it. Obviously it would be good if the Verizon Media Manager could run on it and serve-up all of this content to my TV's! Has anyone had any experience with this?
I tried to install the Media Manager on it (logging into the server with Remote Desktop), but for some reason the server wouldn't let me, even though I have Admin rights.
I am trying to install the latest version of media manager and setup wizard fails stateing that the install was interrupted and to reinstall.
No other error is given. I checked the event viewer and found entries mentioning error code 1602 and 1603 with no explaination.
I downloaded the latest adobe flash player, using Media player 11 on vista 32 bit machine with 63 gig free. The previous version worked fine until I tried to upgrade.
Removing quicktime does not solve problem as someone else posted. Messed up Itunes.
Called FIOS support and worked with support for 3 different days, no success. Last person, a manager, admitted they know nothing about media manager and for me to try here....
help!
Hi there. I'm sorry about this trouble you're having. When you have a chance, give this a try:
Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver and delete all files/folders found there
Re-install media manager
Possible issue with the installer engine. Please post or message me if successful.
Brian
tried that with the other tech's the other day....

Suggest you contact Microsoft's Technical Support group. I also had a problem with the new 9.2 software upgrade and called Verizon's Tech support and they could not figure out the problem. I then contacted Microsoft Technical Support and they were able to determine that a Roxio software program installed in my computer conflicted with Verizon's Media Manager.
I un-installed the Roxio program and reinstalled Verizon's software upgrade and the problem was resolved. I believe you may have better results to determine your issue if you contact Microsoft's Techincal Support group.
Don't think Microsoft is the culprit (hated saying that) since I don't have Roxio installed and Media Manager worked prior to installing the upgrade.
Nothing new was introduced to my pc.
no success with installing media manager after spending hours on the phone with support and this forum
seems no one knows how this product works
well, they finally posted another version of media manager on 8/6 and it finally works.
there might be some program or file in your start up that is conflicting. in general when I have trouble loading software, I go to start > run > msconfig go to the start up tab and hit disable all (I re-enable after the install)
after disabling all, I reboot my machine, and install the software of choice, and that will let me install succesfully most of the time.
after installing, don't forget to go back and re-enable your start up programs. start > run > msconfig
I've tried to install the media manager several times. Everytime it starts up, a dialog box displays saying that the media manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. The dialog box allows me to send a report on the error. I've sent several reports over the last week and I've never received a response.
I've un-installed and re-installed the program several times.
Any ideas?
I have the same problem. I was able to set it up initially and add a photo album with 460 jpgs. It showed up immediately on the DVR's Media Manager and I could view the jpgs on TV.
After I closed the program and restarted later, the program would show an error window stating it "encountered a problem and needed to close." As long as I didn't hit the OK button on the error window I could view the jpgs on my TV.
I'm running XP home premium.
I have a Vista 64-bit machine that has no problem handling Fios Media Manager.
But neither machine can handle my movie files -- timing out each time.
Everytime I try to install Media Manager on my PC I keep getting errors. While Installing I get "TODO (Filename)" after I let the error report, the program completes the install. When I try to run it I get the following errors:
8/17/2009 12:11:52 PM Application Error Fault bucket 1415101203. Event ID 10018/17/2009 12:11:49 PM Application Error Faulting application convertdb.exe, version 9.2.72.0, faulting module msvcr71.dll, version 7.10.3052.4, fault address 0x0000302e. Event ID 1000
I have tried not loading any other programs on a clean boot, but it still will not load. I have not had this problem with prior version of the software. Should this be reported to support?
I just installed Media Manager 9.2.72 on my Vista X64 SP2 system. It installed without error, but when I start the program it will not start. I get a small window in the middle of the screen the says "Offline" and that's it. The previous version worked just fine. Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing it or how to fix it?
Is it possible to download the previous version?
Thanks for your help!
I think you have a bad installer package, go to search after unistalling, search out any file with verizon attached to the name, then go to regedit in the run command, find Hkeylocal machine software, scroll down to the verizon folder, right click and delete that folder. then reboot your machine and reinstall MM
Good Luck.
I went into the registry with RegSeeker and removed anything listed as "verizon media" .. it worked.. thanks
I have the same problem. I get error an message that "MM has encountered a problem and needs to close" as soon as the program opens. If I DO NOT hit SEND and leave message box open, I can view Photos and Videos. Songs play but NO SOUND. I can play songs with MM on my PC.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled once.
XP Media Center Edition SP3
I just switched from Comcast to FIOS TV. I had already had FIOS phone & internet for over a year and a half. I like it very much so far. The standard definition picture quality is quite a bit better than Comcast & there are alot more HD channels than Comast. I also love being able to program my DVR from my computer.
My question is the Media Manager software. I had gotten a message from my boxes that I could use this software with my DVR and my computer. I checked the help section on Verizon's site & it mentioned something about Vista 32 bit. My computer is Vista 64 bit. Does that mean the software is not compatible with my operating system? If it isn't compatible, does anyone have any idea if it will be in the future. Also, what about Windows 7? I have already pre-ordered Windows 7 & will be upgrading to the new OS.
It is a 32bit program, but I have run it on Vista 64. I have never used Vista 32bit. Has anyone else run into any issues?
I had tested it and then discontinued it's use, because I do not need it. I have a Media PC next to my TV.
Media manager used to not work with 64 bit Vista. However I believe that the last few updates to it have made it compatible with Vista 64bit.
I set up the Media Manager today. Got it working for about two hours. Had all my settings done -- it took about that long to specify which picture and music folders I wanted to share and which would be hidden.
Then it crashed. I tried multiple times to open it, kept receiving the same message.
I had already reset the power saving options, as suggested.
Looks like this could be a possible Vista problem? Or maybe something else?
What is the error messge (or messages)?
I have had Media Manager running on a Vista PC for some months - admittedly with infrequent use. Last week, I tried to use it to view some new family photos and the Home Media DVR would not recognize/see the PC that had media manager installed.
I tried removing the software and reinstalling; next removing the DBs and reinstalling - but no luck. The home PC can ping the Home Media DVR - all looks fine but still, the home media DVR does not see the PC as being online and running Media Manager.
I installed Media Manager on my laptop to see would it be recognized - and it was.
I have powered off and on the home media dvr - to see if that might clear things up - no luck.
Can anyone recommend troubleshooting steps I can follow to see what's wrong? I cannot think of any software, virus checkers, firewalls, etc installed or modified on the "problem" PC that would have taken it "offline" as far as the home media dvr is concerned.
Frustration mounts!
Thanks in advance for any help.
Run Media Manager on PC and check if below 3 ports are open on computer by typing “netstat –a” at the command prompt and you should be able to see below 3 ports openProto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP SLIMBASIA2:18001 SLIMBASIA2.its.verizon.com:0 LISTENINGUDP SLIMBASIA2:5050 *:*UDP SLIMBASIA2:5060 *:* If you can’t see all of the above ports open then check if any firewalls are installed..Disable or modify the firewall and check again.
Note:
If windows firewall is on and no any other third party firewall running, you need to make sure “Exceptions” are allowed. (“Don’t allow exceptions” unchecked.) Every time when re-launching freshly, Media Manager application automatically adds itself to the Windows Firewall “Exceptions” list and no other configuration needed. In rare case, if the problem persists please shut down MEDIA MANAGER completely and re-launch.
If Windows Firewall is off, then it will not affect Media Manager. In most cases, if you have third party firewalls running at local PC, these firewalls usually turns off Windows Firewall automatically to avoid conflict in rule settings.
We also suggest you to have at most one firewall active at a time to avoid conflict in settings.
Sometimes, when you uninstall a third party firewall software, the uninstall process (in most cases) will turn Windows Firewall on after finishing un-installation.
I've been using Media Manager for a few months now via a Windows 2000 PC. I accidently clicked ok to the software's update request last night. The latest version was installed and now the Media Manager no longer works. The error statement is:
The procedure entry point SHParseDisplayName could not be located in the dynamic link library SHELL32.dll
Seeing as how Media Manager currently appears to be looking to run an XP+ procedure in SHELL32.dll, I'm wondering if you could provide me a link to the old Media Manager that works on Windows 2000? I currently have no way to back out of the upgrade.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
Hello. Ok, so for anyone that is still having trouble installing Media Manager, here are the initial t/s steps. Be advised that individual registry errors or software conflicts may not be addressed with these steps. If that is the case, post specifics in the thread. TY.
The following steps should be used as a guide to resolve errors that may occur during the installation of Verizon’s Media Manager.
If all of the above steps have been taken, and you still experience installation errors, please post here or contact Verizon Technical Support at (888) 553-1555.
I just installed Media Manager on my Home Server last night. I connected via RDC like you did, and at first it wouldn't let me run the .exe file from my Software directory. I copied the .exe to the desktop, and it worked from there.
Photos and music seem to play nicely, but video is terrible, like watching YouTube over a 56k modem connection. Any ideas on how to improve video playback? I don't know how the Media Manager software works, so I don't know if the problem is with the server being overloaded or with the set-top box.
I am running Mac OS 10.6. I installed Media Manager and it worked. I then created a slide show in iPhoto to add and now Media Manager crashes immediately upon opening. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no luck. I went to Verizon online chat and was told straight out by the agent that there is nothing that he could do or recommend, that the Media Manager software is what is! In other words, he was telling me that there is no support offered for this software. Ridiculous to offer something and when it doesn't work just say, "Oh, well...."
I've had a similar experience with OS X 10.6 and the Verizon Media Manager. On my original download, everything worked fine and I could select various events and photo albums from iPhoto and even some playlists from iTunes to see and listen to via the media manager on our DVR. Then for some inexplicable reason, it crashes immediately upon start. The only thing I could attribute it to was adding lots of new iTunes playlist folders and playlists. I too removed it and re-installed without any change.
Same exact issue here. as the two right above. Crashes as soon as it launches. iMac with 10.6.2
One thing I did notice as the system requirements for the Mac version of Media Manager only goes up to Leopard releases. Perhaps snow leopard is not supported
I'm having the same problems as the other OS X SL (10.6) users. VMM crashes on my MBP as soon as it opens. I did have it running but then came a Security update from Apple.
Two things since my last posting:
1. I am running Snow Leopard not just Leopard. That certainly might make a difference about the crashes.
2. I have noticed that no one from Verizon has bothered to respond to our postings which makes me wonder if they care about customers' concerns. If there is a problem, admit it, post it, tell us that you are working on it and will alert us when the problem is fixed and ready for "prime time." Otherwise, Verizon, you don't look so good.
I, too, am having the very same issues as the other people who have made a posting. I, too, contacted Verizon support and they provided ZERO help. The tech with whom I spoke said he had not heard of the problem where Mac users running Snow Leopard where the MM originally worked and then just stopped working. Every time I boot my computer and it tries launching MM...then crash goes the program.
From what I read from the others, it looks as if the best course of action is to just uninstall Verizon Media Manager and wait until they re-issue an "updated and improved" program for our computers.
The idea was good but I don't think that they (the company) fully understood the ramifications.
Spoke with Verizon Fios Support. They had nothing to offer not even a tech support email address to send a copy of the error report. Best they could suggest was to post the error report here. They say no more than 20,000 characters so only the actual crash thread is below.
Appears it is in Thread 10 when it gets a kernel protections error as it attempts to access the iphoto library.
Sorry about the long post.

I am running Windows 7 on my PC. When I setup Media Manager I am able to play music, see photos/slideshow... can't play video. I have seen that this is a common problem in this forum.
EVen though my network settings are set to discover devices... I don't see the Motorola DVR on the network devices list. Is this a problem or no issue?
The folders (video, pictures, music) all show up ok on my FIOS medica manager menu... but I get the message Media Manager is not able to play this video at this time... please try again later. This happens for all file formats... including the sample video provided by Media Manager.
This is really disappointing.. I hope Verison can solve this problem soon...
I've read the dozens and dozens of posts about Media Manager problems but I don't see the answer (at least not a recent answer) to the basic problem I'm having.
I installed Media Manager yesterday. No problem. I have v9.2.72.
Scanned a bunch of .jpg files. No problem.
Went to my 7100 series DVR, selected Media Manager on the menu. Problem. I keep getting a message saying no computers can be found running Media Manager.
I've rebooted my router, PC, and the DVR STB. Still no joy.
I have Media Manager installed on a PC running WinXP SP3; Windows Firewall; Eset Smart Security V4; SuperAntispyware; and Ad Muncher.
My FiOS installation is pretty plain vanilla. Coax from the ONT split to an Actiontec Rev E router and the TV's installed around the house.
All other features on all STB's, including the DVR, work properly. Widgets, VOD, etc.
Can anyone suggest anything I can try to jump start the connection between my 7100 STB and my PC running Media Manager?
Thanks in advance.
LRG51,
Good morning! I understand you're having problems with Media Manager- very sorry to hear that! Unfortunately, at this time Media Manager is not supported on Windows 7.
As per the Media Manager page (http://verizon.com/mediamanager), the following are the Windows Installation Requirements:
Full compatibility for Windows 7 is being worked on, but until an official release is offered there will not be any support for it. I'm very sorry about the temporary inconvenience!!!
- Chris
Replying to my own message. Maybe it'll help the next guy.
My problem turned out to be my firewall...Eset Smart Security V4. I found I had to create a rule allowing Media Manager to communite with my PC and presto....I was in.
I think it'll be pretty neat having a slide show on the big screen TV in the den when the family is all here for Xmas.
I know windows 7 has only been out for over a year but do you have any idea when MM will support it?
Have Vista installed. MM has been installed for more than 6 months. Suddenly stopped working. Crashes w/in 1 minute of startup.
Uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Got rid of hidden folders. All that good stuff. No difference.
I just downloaded the new version of Media Manager for Mac and it worked immediately, no problems. Maybe they fixed the bugs finally.
I just had Verion Fios installed and I have been trying to install the media manager into my system, but I keep running into a problem.
I am getting a "windows installer" box stating "The installation package could not be opened. Verify the package exist and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package"
I am running Vista 64 bit. I also tried downloading the test trial installer and I get the same error message.
The file is about 623KB only. Is that correct?
TIA.
J
I have loaded and removed 2x the last 2 days. I am not great w/ vista 64 but, I had to add a new user account as administrator, loaded fine, but when I went back to the user account we normally use, kept getting spinning world. so I brought up app, played with it on tv and have now removed, again.
Figured it out. I didn't have in home agent installed.
Thanks!
It is now Feb. 2010, has anything been done about this snow leopard issue. Media manager still crashes upon opening. Any solutions yet????
The Verizon Media Manager installshield wizard is running. During the Copying New Files stage I receive this error message.
Error 1606: Could not access network location www36.verizon.net/widget/fioslink/downloads/new/Core.cab
I tried with firewall on and off with same result. Ran mediamanager.exe as an Administrator on Vista.
I had Media Manager installed and working when media manager told me there was a software update. Unfortunately, I told it to install the update. Now I have no Media Manager installed and it won't reinstall due to the error above. Help.
I've had exactly the same issue- the original version of Media Manager ran ok, did the update to the new version and it never installed- Error 1606. I Tried the various fixes posted here (firewall off, remove old files etc) none of it worked. Does the new version install for anyone with an XP PC meeting the min reqs?
I just installed the update....v9.3.37. No problem.
Running WinXP Pro SP3; Eset Smart Security 4; SuperAntiSpyware; Ad Muncher.
I am running Vista 32bit. Some lessons learned with the new release of media manager 9.3.37
When upgrading from 9.3.15, it would get to the point in the install process of removing the older version, however, appears that the uninstall was never successful as each time i would come back into media manager it would notify me that a new version was now available.
To get around this i manually un-installed media manager and reinstalled the latest.
I also noticed that after un-intalling, it would leave the following directory and files: c:/users/name/AppData/Roaming/Verizon/Verizon Media Manager You need to manually remove this directory if you wish a clean re-install.
best of luck.
Been trying to install the latest version of media manager on an XP SP3 machine but I get a strange message saying it "can't detect windows media player 11 or greater...". I have windows media player 11 installed. Any ideas?
I have Media Manager installed and working on Win 7 64 bit. My issue is when computer is restarted MM starts and opens maximized taking over the desktop. I then have to close MM which then puts it where it belongs in the taskbar by the clock. I do not see where I can make it start minimized.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Had Media manager running. Tried to upgrade hoping it would fix some of the playback problems but was getting the msg below. So I un-installed MM and tried to re-install.... (I know, silly me) . Now I have no MM and the same msg....
When I try to install Media Manager on my PC, it starts running and then stops with an error message
The files for installation requirement windowsmediaformatruntime could not be found. The installation will now stop. This is probably due to a failed, or canceled download.
I can see this avenue is a waste of time.....
How did you get it to install on your computer? I have Windows 7 64bit and it says that it can't install it...
Has anyone found an answer for this. I tried the msi clean up utility, but I can't find any files for media manager in there? I've seen no other support for this? What's the deal?
i have had the same problems with the "windowsmediaformatruntime error"
i have tried every single suggestion here and it STILL doesnt work. unbelieveably bad Customer service.
Running the program in compatability mode - windows vista works for me. Hope this helps.
Would like to: access photos on my Macbook Pro via Media Manager, on my TV
Mac OSX version: 10.5.8
Media Manager installed on Mac? Yes
Have files/folders marked to be shared/access in Media Manager application on Mac: Yes
IP address shown on "System Information" for the TV/Verizon DVR: 192.168.1.100
Can ping above ip address 192.168.1.100 on my Mac: Yes
Networking setup: DIR 615 with Verizon router set up for wireless access. Devices in house, including my MacBook Pro is wireless.
DIR 615 IP: 192.168.0.1
Verizon router IP: 192.168.1.1
As mentioned, I am able to ping 192.168.1.100, which is the DVR/TV from my Mac. So I assume I might need to have ports 5050, 18000, 18001 enabled.
Questions: How do I know if ports 5050, 18000, 18001 is open?
I CAN access my DIR-655 admin menu.
I CANNOT access my Verizon modem router admin menu (don't have login credentials)
I tried to add "port forwarding" rule in DIR-655 (not even sure if I did it correctly) - for TCP and also UDP 5050, 18000,18001, using IP 192.168.1.100, but got error message coming back from DIR655 saying
"Ip Address for 'verizon' should be within LAN subnet 192.168.0.0"
Last append in this thread is 3 months ago. Download for media manager is broken with a 404 (http://www36.verizon.com/widgets/fioslink/mediamanagersla.htm). Verizon wasn't aware it was broken, insisted it was working until I showed it to them with a screen share. Has anyone had a good experience with it? Is it worth investing time into?
What was the Eset rule you provided that allowed your STB to connect to your PC? Thanks!
please help me to fix this problem...i have no idea
