Before we obtained Verizon FIOS, we had business DSL service via Covad with static IP addresses. We ran our own Internet server and our own Email server. We have an in-house wired network of several computers, and the connection to the DSL modem was via a separate firewall computer running W2K Server and Microsoft ISE.
Now that we no longer need to run in-house Internet or mail servers, we have Verizon FIOS and the WAN connection from the firewall is wired to the FIOS router. We do not use the wireless facility at all. I have changed the IP configuration on the firewall to use an IP address obtained automatically by DHCP. Everything works just fine, except...
Every 24 hours the firewall loses its DHCP IP address lease. The only way to restore service is to restart the firewall PC. This can be a huge inconvenience because (for reasons I do not know) restarting W2K Server can take over 20 minutes.
Does anyone please have a solution that will enable the DHCP-obtained lease on the IP address to remain valid indefinitely? That would be extremely helpful.
Thank you,
