FiOS TV in Greenwich

Currently, Verizon offers only Internet and phone services to its FiOS subscribers in Greenwich, CT. Port Chester is right across the border, but its residents get the TV as well.

I remember hearing from a salesperson at a mall that the reason the TV is not offered has something to do with licensing from the local government. If this iscorrect, could anybody please post the details of what is going on? I would be happy to contact my elected local representatives, if this could be of any help.

Verizon has to get a franchise agreement from each municipality that it wants to sell video services. Until Verizon pays that municipality it can not offer video even though they have it.

So was this simply a business decision on Verizon's part to not offer FiOS TV and save on the fees, or are municipalities standing in its way, not letting it get a franchise agreement in Greenwich?

Usually it is a time consuming process. The town holds hearings with the residents. The town and Verizon negotiated on the percentage they want and what Verizon is willing to pay. It is all the back and forth that takes time but in the end it works out.
