Sound out of sync with Picture

I have an issue, not always thouhg, where the sound and the picture are out of sync. It doesn't matter if the sound is coming from my surround sound system or directly through the TV.

My Verizon FIOS DVR is connected to the TV with HDMI cable.

Is this a problem with the DVR ? Can this be caused by the DVR getting over heated ?

here is what you can do before calling in.

do a unscrew rescrew of coax, power cycle the box by unplugging it and plugging it back in.

If possible use another box to prove it is the box. also make sure the box is well ventilated, nothing on top.

Do you notice this on certain channels or is it any channels ?

Another thing to try. I have had on every DVR I've ever had, Tivo, Direct tv, Fios. They've all done it where the pic and sound are both out of sync. I've found that if I pause the pic for 2 seconds the problem goes away. Its almost as if the pic wants to overrun the sound in the buffer. It has fixed my issue on every different model. may want to give that a shot too.
