Looking for recommendations on 46" -52" TV

I recently bought an LCD Sony TV at costco and was very disappointed . I had adjusted all of the settings correctly but the latency in starting up and overall picture quality was fair at best when looking at fios regular TV. I am looking for recommended TV's in the 1200-2500 range but would like a nice picture . My current TV is a 1st generation Plasma 40" TV that is still working great And the service we have is Fios with HD setup box . Can anyone offer some guidance or recommendations ??

i would head over to the display section of AVSForum to read user reviews of various displays.

With the $1300 range that you have mentioned, you should have plenty of choices for your next television.

If it was me, I would start and end at plasma displays. I have friends and family with LCD's and Plasma's, and to my eye plasmas just look better.

(of course, I am still using a 720p HD-DILA (Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS), which is a rear projection) from JVC circa 2005)

There is your problem.... you are watching regular TV on an HDTV.....

plug your HD box into the new TV, and go watch an HD channel....

If you wtill want another TV at that point, come back and let us know....

Take this for what its worth (not much in some opinions lol ). I am doing the same. I'm looking for a large screen TV. But during all my shopping and comparing, I seem to be drawn to the LED TV's. I just cant seem to find anything that competes when side by side. I was considering the same basic price that you were ($1400 +/-) but I think I'm just going to save for a little longer and buy one of those LED TV's from Samsung. I cant find a picture to compete with them.

I have the Samsung 46' LED TV and have to say that I am VERY pleased with this TV. The HD quality is amazing and everyone comments on how clear the picture is. I got it for $1500 from Best Buy and have seen the price range of 1600-1900 recently. Anyone thinking about a new TV, I highly recommend it.

I have to second the Samsung recommendation. Even the older LCD sets (like mine) have a superior picture to just about anything out there. I bought an LN46A750 a little over a year ago after having both Vizio and Panasonic plasma sets prior. No comparison. Everyone who sees our set remarks at how amazing the picture is. Add a BluRay and WOW! We got it through Fry's and pulled the buy online but pick up at the store trick which saved $300 making the purchase price $1599 over a year ago. The model has changed to LN46"B"750 but the quality is still there...

I recently bought a sony 46" Z-series and love it. I had it calibrated and the HD and blue ray pic quality is awesome. I have always liked Sony, that being being said I was between the XBR9 and the Samsung 850 series. The Samsung pic is really nice as well but I like the matte finish on the Sony screen better. Plus the power consumption on the z series is actually less than the XBR9 and 850 Samsung. The issue now is that in order to get the same features and processors in the new Sony line its upwards of $2400 for the same tv, I paid $1300 at BB when the model year was ending in Feb this year. If you search you can still find Z-series at other online sites in that price range and it is definitly worth it. Just my $.02
