here you go tweeps - new 320GB DVR - http://bit.ly/aiJ58i about 15 hours ago via TweetDeck
moosetender I don't expect a beta
robnance also eSATA drive rigs seem to be going away in favor of USB
exiva killing me --- no dates here or they take me out behind the shed and shoot me
adamuspsu not available yet - we announced a more "green" STB was being tested and so happens that included info on the drive size.
From all the posts about new 320G Motorola DVR, I am still not clear will this new box be able to hook up to the external harddrive through USB? 320GB is certainly much better but getting external recording capacity is big plus
I'll test one!!!! PLEASE VERIZON!!!!
Heck, I would even go out and buy a 2 TB drive to throw into an external case to test the USB connectivity.
Perhaps I should wait to have Fios installed until these come out... or will I not have any issues getting one of these after having the current box?

Verizon will swap out the older box; they will ship you the new one and send a prepaid return label for the old box. Be aware that it will be another six to nine months before the QIP7232 is available to most customers (ETA October/November).
Hopefully it will come with much higher quality video support... current systems really suck on video quality.
jmercado567 - I think 99% of FiOS customers would disagree with you. There are a lot of problems that come up on this forum, but very few of them have to do with FiOS having low-quality video.
I doubt this STB will have any significant changes to that, since all FiOS video is uncompressed.
I've yet to hear anyone ever complain about video quality. Everyone that comes over and see's the quality of my picture is impressed. Its the best picture I've seen on a TV yet.

Yep. In Sept. I will have had FiOS TV for 5 years, and I have never, ever seen a better picture on anybody else's TV using cable or satellite, even though my HD TV is 4+ years old. If the HD picture quality is bad, something very bad is wrong, either a setting in the STB or TV or in the cabling in the house or in the fiber connections or in the central office. For anybody that has poor HD picture quality, I suggest they see if their neighbors with FiOS see the same thing; if so, the problem is problably outside the house.
A common cause for poor picture is a loose coax connection or a defective splitter.
Just some thoughts.

I will gladly test a box as well! If anyone knows how to sign up for the Beta, please let me know!
Thanks!
If you look at my original post in this thread, the FiOS Twitter rep said there would not likely be a beta.
I think people are so hungry for more space that they are acting irrationally. Don't expect people to be reasonable about something so desirable as a less-small hard drive for their DVR.
Think about this. Verizon is not being logical about using 320GB. It is still tiny in comparison to where technology is. The 2TB (2000GB) size will soon cost about $100. Perhaps the only reason Verizon is using the 320GB size is because it is the smallest-capacity that is available in the desktop size. Perhaps manufacturers are discontinuing the 160GB size, forcing Verizon to switch to 320GB. I see no logic in changing to 320GB except to intentionaly provide the least amount of space as possible. Is there any other logical explanation?
There is probably more to the story that Verizon is not telling us. It really should not be necessary to test a change from 160GB to 320GB; that should not require a lot of testing. And you know that Verizon does not test as extensively as they should. So if there is much testing going on, then there is a lot more than just 320GB. If the switch to 320GB from 160GB is the only change, then it makes sense to me taht they do not need to go through beta testing.
The 160gb drives are already out of production at most HDD makers, and the 320mb's may be history by this time next year, so the 320gb decision doesn't appear to be a very good decision.
As others have pointed out, there is very little difference in cost between a 160gb and a 500gb at this point.
jmercado567 - that's because some of that station's programs and/or commercials aren't filmed/created in HD. So it doesn't matter if you have DirecTV, Verizon, Comcast, or Dish Network - if the program or commercial isn't filmed in HD to begin with, then it's not going to be in HD, even if it's on an "HD" channel.
For example, your local Fox affiliate may have shows such as 24 and American Idol in HD, as well as major commercials like one for Toyota or Best Buy. But that same station may have a sitcom playing from the 1990s that isn't HD, or a commercial from Joe's Shop down the street which wasn't filmed in HD. Thus they will display in 4:3 SD because that's how they were created.
That has nothing to do with Verizon or Dish. That's up to the individual station and the creators of each program/commercial.
Verizon doesn't directly pay for the hard drives, they pay motorola for the boxes, whoi has already payed for the hard drives. Motorola can charge verizon more for 500gb than 320gb, even though market price is equivalent.
