Alright, I've never been to good with routers and what not and I probably caused my issue here.
I was trying to move my router, a Verizon MI424WR, to a different location in my house (the router is currently located in the furthest corner of my house away from my room, where my PS3 is located, the wireless signal is way too weak and I'm always losing connection). Since the cable wire was screwed too tight into my box (grrr FiOs tech), I'm unable to use a splitter and have to rely on wireless for my gaming.
So in a moment of frustration when my PS3 was just unable to connect to the weak signal, I unplugged the router from downstairs and made one aggravated attempt to unscrew that cable with some pliers. Ultimately, the cable won, and fortunately the box still works fine.
I returned the router to its original location and hooked everything back up. To my surprise, when I went back to my desktop computer, I saw that the computer was unable to connect back to the internet. I restarted my computer and figured that might solve it. No dice. I turned off the computer, then the router, waited, then plugged it back in. Still nothing. Reset. Nothing.
I noticed however, that my Droid still picked up the wireless connection. I turned on my PS3 and lo and behold, it immediately signed me into the Playstation Network (if only it had done that hours earlier, I wouldn't be going through this). I plugged in this old laptop, and it connected immediately to the wireless signal.
All the while, my desktop remains useless. I looked at the box outside of my house, and I saw that the ethernet light is out and thus, ethernet is disabled. The second light is also out on the router itself.
Did I really cause all of this by unplugging the router? We've lost power numerous times and unplugged the router in the past and once everything was plugged back in, everything was fine. Is that light in the box supposed to be off? I'm not sure what to do from here and I'm dreading calling Fios support in the morning because the internet is just filled with horror stories. I'm hoping someone here can help me out.
Thank you.
