Does FiOS stay on when the power goes out?

I'm wanting to buy a UPS for my computer, but I'm not sure if the internet will still work if the power's out.

The UPS would power the router & computer, and anything else with a plug inside my house needed for the internet. Verizon also gave us this big backup power box which i'm not sure where the power goes to.

The VZ Battery Backup (BBU) supplys power to the ONT in the event of a power failure. In order to keep phone service up as long as possible, the internet and video portions of the ONT are shut down after 5 minutes. If you want to keep the internet up, plug the BBU into your UPS.
Be sure and size your UPS according to the load factors and desired run time.

Is there a way to change that setting to shut the phones off after 5 minutes instead of the internet? Our phones are much less important than our internet, and it looks like that battery backup has a good amount of power in it to last a while.

Last time we had a power outage I was one of the only ones in the area with ALL services. I connected my generator, connected the modem, computer, and telephone power supply to my generator and I had televisin, internet, and telephone service. My parents who also have a generator but use Cablevision were without all their services for about 3 days. As long as you have power runnng to the Verizon services, even in a poweroutage there is a much better chance of you keeping all your services than standard cable customers.

No.

You have to realize that most people think having a phone availble during a power outage is more important that the Internet. Y'know...it case you need to call the fire department or police.

As Anti-Phish commented, if keeping Internet going during a power outage is important to you, plug the BBU in to an adequate UPS as well as feeding your router and computer with a UPS.
