I have FiOS. I have a room in my home that had cable in the past. It was disconnected outside a couple of years ago. I’d now like to reconnect it and have internet access in that room. Once connected is it possible to add a second router there?
You may or may not need a second router, depending on what you're actually trying to accomplish.
Assuming/if:
Your Verizon router is fed by coax;
The room where you want an Internet connection still has coax running to it from the cable days;
The coax in that room is, or can be, connected to the coax feeding the existing router and and FiOS TV's....
The easiest solution is probably an Actiontec ECB200 MoCA adapter.
You can get an ECB2200 for ~$80. It's plug-an-play. No configution necessary. You'd connect one side of the 2200 to the coax coming in to the room where you want it. The output of the 2200 is an Ethernet connector. It would give you Internet connectivity in that room with the same speeds as you get directly from your router and your existing router would still handle all DHCP services.
I'm using this configuration. It was easy to set up and it works great.
I think this sounds like the solution.
Can I buy the adapter in the usual places, Best Buy etc?
Google ecb2200 purchase to see if you can find one at a local store. I couldn't and bought mine through Amazon.
edit: BTW, if you need more than one Ethernet port in the room where the ECB2200 winds up, you can easily feed it to a inexpensive switch to get additional outputs.
I have my MoCA adapater feeding a 4 port switch, which in turn feeds a Netflix Roku box, an 802.11n WAP, and an at&t cellular MicroCell.
Another option for you would be to buy another Actiontec router from eBay. It would cost less than the ECB200 while serving the same function. An extra Actiontec would also give you 4 Ethernet ports ( so you wouldn't need to buy a switch to connect more than one device) and Wifi, all in one.
Initial setup wouldn't be as easy as the ECB200. This method works really well for me though.

Using a second Actiontec router would you define it as a second subnet with a fixed ip on the 192.168.1 subnet ??

The WAN connection as well as DHCP server must be disabled on the second router.See part 2 of the following FAQ for full detailsCan I get an ethernet connection in a room with only coax?
