I need a HD DVR 6416 STB

I'm not sure how many Verizon employees use these forums or if any consumers know of any solutions to my problem but I figured I'd give this a try.

I recently purchased a Samsung theater consisting of the LED UN46B600, BluRay BD-P1600 and SoundBar HT-WS1R. All devices can use a technology called Anynet+. Follow this link for more information. In short, Anynet+ allows every Samsung device to be controlled by one remote and putting a DVD in the player will cause the input to switch and sound system to switch input (if applicable). This is especially important to me because the Fios remote does not have a compatible code with the BluRay player and the Fios remote cannot adjust the TV's menu options (which I frequently do for picture quality).

The Anynet+ feature will not work with the Motorola HD DVR QIP7216 because the box interferes with the HDMI-CEC signal. The purpose of this post is to not only notify consumers and staff of this issue but to see if anyone knows where I can get a LEGAL HD DVR 6416 STB. This older STB is completely compatible with Anynet+ so therefore, I need it. I currently have a Verizon employee who is calling retail stores but I am sure there are far too many to contact them all. If any of you know where I can get the QIP6416 or have any ideas for a fix, please let me know.

As a side note, I would just like the to say that the Verizon staff have been very helpful over these past few days. This is not

a typical problem and they have really worked hard to find a solution. They have even provided me with a free 3 month trial of HBO/Cinemax. I have been very happy with the service since I switched from Comcast, I do not want to have to switch back because of this.

P.S. A universal remote is not a solution

sorry it has taken so long for me to respond. Component cables are not an option as Anynet+ only works with HDMI. However, I am here to tell everyone that there is a real solution out there. The new 1.7 update to QIP-7216 HD DVR includes the necessary software for HDMI-CEC compliance....which means anynet+ works! Now all we need is an updated remote to work with all these new blu-ray players!

All of Verizon cable boxes are part of a controlled inventory which means that you can not pick up their DVR's from outside third party retailers or off the internet from other customers. Once you have the cable box, Verizon needs to activate the cable box for use, and if it's not part of the inventory or has been reported as unrecoverable or missing or stolen, then they won't activate it.

The best way to get a 6416 is through a field technician. They are the only ones that can sift around looking for a 6416 model. A verizon rep calling on your behalf to the various VZ stores is the next best thing, but other than that, over the phone tech support and customer service simply check mark DVR and the system indiscriminately sends whatever DVR is in inventory.

So if in inventory there are a bunch of 7216;s there is nothing that a vz employee can check mark that says to grab a 6416 instead, and so if you have a Field tech or a vz employee making calls to the stores for you (you can also get a list of stores online and make some calls yourself too) then that is the best options that you can excercise.

A lot of stores don't do repair style exchanges for reasons like you're describing, so if they do it will have to be on an individual case basis, they normally will refer you to call the repair desk 888 553 1555

First, I would like to thank you for taking the time to reply to my message. Based on your reply, the only other method that I have not tried is to contact a field technician. How do I contact a field technician? When I spoke with a Verizon phone operator, she indicated that there would be a fee ($75?) to have a technician come out for this issue. Is there any way to avoid this fee or is there an alternate way to communicate with a field technician? Hypothetically, could I just say that my on-demand is glitching and when the technician gets here say it has resolved but that I need that other box? Although unethical, wouldn't that bypass the fee? The 6416 models are the older models, so they are becoming harder and harder to find. After July of 2009 Verizon was required to order only the 7216's. The 6416's that are still being used were all ordered prior to 07/01/09. So as they go bad or issued to other customers, the numbers of them continue to drop as they are no longer being replenished. If Verizon is able to find one for you, great. But if not then there is nothing more to be done. At least not from the providers side. The only other option at that point would be a 3rd party system like Tivo or Moxie.

I have a Samsung LED TV and Samsung Blue Ray Player with the 6416 STB. So I get how the Samsung TV and BR Player talk to each other via the Anynet but how is the 6416 compatible? I don't see anything showing the 6416 is connected via Anynet.

Can you explain this further? Have i hooked something up wrong? I am using the HDMI cable between the 6416 and the TV.

Don't worry, you are not doing anything wrong! The 6416 STB does not have Anynet+ function. All that it does is NOT interfere with the function of Anynet+ with other devices. I have the 7216 and although the TV does recognize and "see" the bluray, when I select the HDMI-CEC input, it turns on the bluray player and starts playing the disc WITHOUT switching to the input. I recieve a "cannot connect to BD Player" error. When i remove the HDMI cable going from the 7216 STB into the TV, Anynet+ works flawlessly.

If you have the 6416 and use Anynet+, DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR BOX!!!!!!

The only way to get to a Field tech is to do one of two things. place an order for something that requires a technician visit like you could call and ask for a cable jack installation for a new room, and that would have a tech come out, or place a repair call and have the issue escelated to the point where they send a tech out for a charge as well.

If I could ask a question though, it sounds like from your last post that if you got rid of HDMI you would be sitting pretty, is there a reason you don't simply just use component cables and digital audio out cables to get the HD 1080i picture and digital audio broadcasts? that would be a less frustrating and faster and cheaper fix than trying to go through the hoops at Verizon to have them send a tech who may or may not have any 6416's?
