Guide scrolls opposite of channels

Why does the guide scroll the opposite way of the channels? Scrolling down increases the channel number. Would it not make more sense that down would be the same as changing the channel down? The overall layout could be cleaned up a lot. When a channel is selected its box is almost three times the size of the rest. I find it actually draws my eyes away towards the smaller boxes making it difficult to read while scrolling. Heres a tip, keep them all the same size and just change the background color. Yes your guide looks pretty but functionally its a mess. Any thoughts on this? I was a DirecTV customer for 5 years so that is what my opinion is based on.

I've seen the scrolling done both ways. It's always a point of contention. Some folks want it to scroll one way, others want it to scroll the other way. They probably asked a focus group and the vote was 51-49 to do it the way it is now.

As for the expander, I guess it depends on you eyesight. My 85 yr old mom likes it because it's easier for her see the channel logo. I hate it because it leaves less room for the others in the list. And they could leave out the extra logos as far as I'm concerned. I don't need the Verizon logo, TVGuide logo, web url, etc. I just left BH and it took a while for me to get used to the busy display.

But i do like the way this guide has a return arrow at the left.

Yes this defies logic. If you're supposed to press channel + for the channels to go UP, then when you get to the guide, logic would dictate the same thing but NO on in verizon land. I've had the TV service more than a year now and that constantly foils me. I remember on Dish Network we had an "ascending" OR "descending" guide option... seems something as simple as that would fix this issue (for MANY of us who enjoy logical operation of our TV service)

I like the arrangement for scrolling just the way it is now.

Think about it.... Of course, if we press + we expect the channel number to increase when we are not viewing the program guide. However, all societies that I know of use a top-to-bottom approach to writing and listing items. In other words, we put the first and lowest numbered item at the top and the highest at the bottom. Even the Chinese who write right to left do the same with top to bottom writing and reading. If anything, that defies logic since we always think of up as increasing in value, so logically we should put the highest number at the top of the page then. That would create a huge problem for most of us who are used to the present systems. And what happens when we have a number list and text both on the same page?

Now as for the channel guide navigation buttons, I would be very confused if I pressed the "up/+" button and the highlighted channel moved "down" in the list. Most of us are used to "up" or "+" controlling the Viewpoint in the list, not the actual number. Changing the labeling from (+ and -) to (- and +) (reversed) would help, but then the channel up and channel down operation outside the guide would be confused.

So you can just blame societal conventions in writing and communication for this whole mess.

While we are on the subject, I wish Verizon had not labeled the channel control buttons + and -. Most other companies label them ^ and v. See attachment (a picture of the Verizon remote and two others). (Not sure if I have permission to attach a file, but here goes).
