Free DVR for life! NOT FOR YOU!!!

No longer a FIOS customer beginning Tuesday, April 26! Because they treat new customers with respect and good deals and not loyal customers like myself (or was loyal). My suggestion? Tell FIOS that giving new customers a Multi room DVR for free for life and not you is unfair! And when they say too bad...Switch like I did to your other options (Optimum in my case)! Good Luck! I already have 3 others switching back. Because FIOS would not give in to a $19 DVR, they are going to lose customers! And good!!!!!

What kind of special bundle did you get when you joined? I know I got far beyond that value, almost double. If you didn't wait around for such a deal, that's on you, not Verizon. If they constantly made Every deal available to Every customer, how would they make money? Besides, no other companies service compares to FiOS. Try getting 35/35+ 24/7 with any other provider, you'll get throttled, terminated, or charged extra fees. Verizon just lets it slide by, even if you do it every single month for 2 years (I know from experience.) That being said, I am a current Verizon customer, who had an account for 2 years. I talked NICELY to them on the phone, didn't threaten to cancel service and guess what, on top of my other deals, which they locked in for another 2 years, I am now getting the multi-room DVR for no cost, AND all the other boxes in my house are included in that free cost. Thanks Verizon, I am now only paying $94.99 for Ultimate HD, MR DVR, 2 extra boxes, 35/35, and home phone.

You are not like most cases! My inlaws, my friend (actually now 2 friends) each tried to get a deal and were met with complete andd utter rudeness on Verizon's part. I was absolutely curtious, for you to imply that I was not and that I was at fault here is exactly the rudeness that Verizon used. I am more likely to believe that you are in fact Verizon management the way you speak to people when writing. Again, Iall I asked them for was to give me the free DVR, not even to match Optimums price. I find it hard to believe you're paying $95 after taxes with FIOS. I'd love to see your bill.

Just disconected. Person I spoke with was absolutely great! She actually agreed with me, I was treated poorly AND SHE WOULD HAVE LEFT AS WELL! She also statred that the only way to get a deal ($101) after taxes) was to actually disconect, get another service, and come back in a year (or sooner) So jeff, you either just got the FiOS, your working for FiOS, Adios Fios, see you in a couple years (maybe) aLSO, tv QUALITY...NOT $500 CHEAPER AT ALL!

I did not say anything that bad, however, it said (in slightly different words) that "JEFF" was not telling the truth about his plan. I used aother words that were perfectly fine, no swear words at all; So I guess I have to treat this blog as I do my kindergarten class LOL. Anyway, I am completely happy with Optimum now, and $40 more in my wallet each month! I do like some things better with Fios, however, some things are better with Optimum. So all in all, I miss the NFL network, but not the crude behavior from the employees that I dealt with. Good luck all! Remember, disconnect then come back, you'll save a bundle with this company that cares little about you and more about the $ (as does Optimum, they're all the same). These companies play you, expect you to thank them for using their dervice when in turn, they should be thanking YOU! Forget the loyalty, make the switch and then come back, you'll do well with them once they want you back! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use Verizon internet for my work at home job. My contract has been up for some time now, and I have tried to re-bundle, but they just offer me a higher price, no incentives, and an attitude with their non-existent customer service. I am currently shopping around for a better deal, and doubt that I will ever come back. I sold Verizon fios services door to door, and know they give return customers a great deal on their bundles, but then they lose them again with the way they treat them. Remember, this company is the old GTE, and for over a century they had a monopoly on their phone service, so it was always, "if you don't like it, you can just live without a phone." They need to wise up, or live just live without customers.

Working in the service indusry as well as being a consumer I find that many people confuse respect with entitlement. If you can't get what you want, and there is nothing you can do to change it, it's usually just best to move on, or accept it. Using loyalty as a bartering chip just doesn't work with large companies today. The current profit margin is the bottom line.

I've had plenty of issues with the customer service but I have always gotten all of my service problems resolved. It usually doesn't matter now nicely you speak to any of those reps and I agree that it can vary. And yes, it can definitely be a pain in the neck. Is the customer service really that much better with the cable companies? I doubt it. Either way, I refuse to switch to cable. Nobody could even pay me to do that. Disconnect and then come back? Not for me. Why would I seriously have all the wiring taken out and then put back in all over again? That's such a waste. A very long time ago, I got rid of Verizon to switch to another phone company and then came back to Verizon but I didn't have the DSL or the Fios back then so switching back and forth was easy, nothing complicated. The Fios product, which is what we are paying for, is way better than cable. I looked very closely at what my family has with Cablevision and Fios is way better in terms of the TV picture quality and having more stations that my family would have to pay extra just to have, the IMG menu and its graphics and various menu options, and Verizon's Internet speed. The cable company in my area is Comcast and what is my answer to Comcast? No way! I had a pretty useless conversation on line with a sales person from there who wasn't too bright.

As with all large corporations, it's all about the profits in the end and I think we all undersand that but I also agree that it's no excuse for poor customer service or rude treatment. I am also too familiar with the run around, being put on hold numerous times only to waste more time, and dealing with some particularly rude CSRs. But I only call 1-800-VERIZON if I really need to. And maybe I'm not the most knowledgeable person in the world either about corporate giants so if I have no idea what I'm talking about, I don't know what to say. I still agree that loyalty should be rewarded. I'm not expecting a free DVR nor do I want one but there are other ways of rewarding customers. But yes, perhaps Verizon is way too large to be able to handle that based on a customer's years of service. Please pardon any ignorance I might have about that.

We seem to have 2 schools of thought on this posted here and you know what? You're both right. I agree with the customer service critics *and* with the Verizon Fios fans who are enjoying the product. I'm leaving my existing package alone. I don't want any upgrades that aren't necessary for my needs and I could care less if my rates go up further. I enjoy the product.

How would I go about that? I am getting some serious offers from cox cable and dish network to cancel and switch with deals like you stated.

You're entitled to your own opinion and if you think you can do better by switching to cable then by all means, go for it. I just learned not that long ago after posting what I had posted here before that I can renew my contract which is something that I think Verizon has communicated poorly. Verizon *does* reward its loyal customers but to obtain the rewards, you need to renew your contract and without knowing that you can renew your contract to reap the rewards, you wouldn't know otherwise. I didn't know myself you could do that. My rates had gone up after my 1st 2 year contract expired and I just thought that was inevitable just like with the cable companies, but that's not the case with Verizon. I learned from a CSR on line that by renewing my contract, that keeps my monthly bill down and I am getting discounts and incentives. I didn't even know you could do that. I will eventually be getting the Verizon pre-paid debit card in 90 days after my new service has been activated. And for those lower rates, I now have faster Internet speed and digital phone service. So that winds up being a much better deal than what you could get from the cable companies. For the first month of the new contract, your bill will be a little higher for the one-time activation fee and a partial month of service but after that, it goes down and my bill at that point will be much lower than it ever was before. And then you would have another early termination fee. The cable companies, as far as I know, don't offer you a contract and your rates can just go up whenever and keep going up over the long run. So over the long run, does the Fios or the cable wind up being more expensive? And clearly, I won't be paying extra for the upgrades thrown in so I have no reason to complain about that. Verizon has a better choice of on demand movies and includes many more stations that the cable companies would charge extra for, not to mention that the graphics along with Verizon's IMG (Interactive Media Guide) are way better.

I think many of us were just not informed or were misinformed about Verizon's rewards. But they do exist. Now why didn't Verizon just say so about this in the first place? If that question goes off in your mind, you will have no argument from me there. But clearly, Verizon is not only rewarding new customers and you don't have to cancel your service and start all over again just to get lower rates and discounts.

I'm not even too sure if customer service from the cable companies would necessarily be better. I think it just varies regardless. The way I look at it is that I am paying for the product and if a conversation with one rep goes over poorly, I'll call again later and speak to someone else. I know whenever I watch cable TV, it's like a let down compared to the fiber optics. There is no comparison whatsoever.

I should add that if you click on the "upgrade and renewal center" under "account" on the red bar on top of your screen and click to chat with a live consultant, that's how you can definitely find out about how renewing your contract to stay with Verizon is a very good deal. This woman who chatted with me to assist me through the entire process was very thorough and great when it came to working with me. Sometimes I hate calling 1-800-VERIZON and sometimes I do much better speaking to someone on line or via email.

I have seen Cablevision and to me, it's a much lower quality product compared to Verizon. This is just my opinion but in the end, we are paying for the product and I think Verizon is distinctly better than cable in terms of its bandwidth, Internet speed, TV picture quality, its IMG, and its choices of TV stations that get included which you would otherwise have to pay extra for with the cable. Now whenever I watch cable TV at my parents' house or at a hotel, it feels a bit like a let down.

I had been thinking about possibly switching to Comcast but particularly after renewing my contract and taking some time to think about it and to compare the features to Verizon's features, there is just no way. And if you think about it, even though you may be getting a sweet deal when you first subscribe to cable, your rates will eventually continue to go up and up because there is no contract with the cable company and with cable, where is the reward for upgrading your service while keeping your rates down? My family has Cablevision and IO optonline for phone and Internet service because they don't have Verizon Fios available in their area and even though it's adequate, I'm not really impressed with it after enjoying Fios for quite some time. Verizon is very good about including more features and upgrades while keeping the cost down for the customer. I can definitely say that since now I know the rewards are there for loyal customers.

The only thing I can really say is that switching from analog antenna TV to Verizon Fios has been quite a learning curve for me because it really can get complicated and confusing at times.

Our 2 year contract just expired. I called Verizon and asked what they would do to save me money now that Comcast has deals on offer. The rep. Reduced the rate and gave me free DVR for life. I wanted to save more and downgraded the plan from Extreme to Prime. I was given 30 days to make changes. After checking the channel lineup carefully, I realized that I would miss some channels, so called back to change to Extreme again. The rep. In that call said that she would change me back to Extreme, but that there was no record of eliminating the DVR charges!!! And there was nothing she could do. I told her this was a new contract and I should be treated the same as any new customer. I told her this was not acceptable, and the first rep. very clearly eliminated the DVR charges. I asked to speak with a supervisor and related the facts in detail. After 5 minutes on hold, they agreed to waive the DVR charges and give me the Extreme package for $125/mo. Be firm. Verizon gets a two year contract with the real and potential benefits---I needed to get something back, or I would have incentive to return to Comcast---we are already wired for it!

I understand your frustration, I am leaving Verizon for same reason. The lady at customer service flat out said they do not care about keeping customers, they only care about getting new ones. I find this shocking, why would they want to lose a loyal customer over faster internet and a free dvr? Very strange way to do business, makes me want to switch cellular services too!
