It looks like Android 2.2 is coming to the Ally... I'll give out more info if I hear anything.
Always thought it would.
I read by the end of the year but you are the man so "Tell Us"
that is the $64,000000 question.
A lot of us feel little respect from most forums and reviewers.
But this bad boy is a dark horse that is really cool and functional!!
Thanks
Thank goodness! Can't wait for it. Yes, please keep us in the loop.
Be careful what you ask for..

Verizon preventing the use of a few 2.2 features that didn't exist in 2.1 is hardly a net negative, the 2.2 update will still be a great improvement to the Ally and other phones that get it. As it is you had to be able to root your phone and install special applications to make these features work, and you also had to be willing to violate the terms of your service with Verizon.
If there's a lock with something cool behind it, someone will break it, they'll never fully stop rooting, etc. The sky just isn't falling, it's really about the same color it was yesterday...
I am talking about net neutrality and abilities of the phone that WERE working but were crippled after an update.
At&t who does cripple their andoid users And Verizon have been in meeting on capitol hill for the last 5 weekes working out a deal
really with big buisness who is our goverment about controlling access to internet services.
You should read about it. Bueacuse they want to control what content is delivered to who and at what speeds.
Al Franken been out there fighting for our internet freedoms.
So that is nice you don't have a problem with this...
I sure do
Any updates as to when the Ally will be getting the 2.2 update? I keep hearing about it on other phones but no mention of the Ally.
Is this Android 2.2 update the same update that will allow Apps to be saved on a memory card...If so I hope it comes fast! I am a little fanatical about being able to save stuff on my memory card rather than hogging up all my phones memory. I love my Ally though, in all the years Ive had cell phones Ive never once had a problem with an LG phone to date. Even my ENV2 which was spiked off the ground numerous times never broke until I forgot I stuck it on the roof of my car and ran over it. LOL... Way to go LG for making yet another awesome phone!!!! I cant wait for the 2.2 update, Ill be able to get more apps without worrying about killing my phones memory.
Any idea as to when the Ally is getting the 2.2 update? I'm hearing all this stuff about 8/18 being THE day for a lot of other phones, but nothing about the Ally. Beginning to feel left out here.......
if you can't be a good example, be a horrible warning.......
According to the conversation I had, via internet chat, with an LG Rep. the Ally will more than likely not get 2.2. The Rep. felt like the Ally processor would not handle 2.2.
I sure hope someone is out there to prove the rep. and me wrong also. It is just MO that LG was stirring the ANDROID water with the Ally and that to get 2.2 on an LG phone one is going to have to wait for a phone update (new phone) with HW that will handle 2.2.
Again, I hope I am wrong as I want 2.2 w/flash.
i really don't believe the ally will get 2.2. the early rumors were that it may not even come with 2.1 and i believe it may be the only droid with 2.1 that does not have a 1 ghz processor (maybe the eris as well...don't know what processor it runs?). it was good news when they released it with 2.1 but i think 2.2 may be pushing a processor that is just over half the speed of all of the other droids that came out this summer a bit too much? not sure...but i wouldn't hold my breath. if it does get it though, it will be a while. it's going to the moto's then the htc's. i would enjoy your ally with 2.1 and if you ever get 2.2.....BONUS!!!
My friends husband has the Motorola Droid and he just got his update on Wed....Ugh so jealous Im ready for the Ally to get it especially since alot of apps I like now are all saying 'able to save on sd card'...
The LG representative on the LG community forum posted that LG WILL update the Ally to 2.2.
Here's a link to the thread. (LGProductPro is the screen name for the LG rep)

Thanks for posting the link. I've been seeing this same information for a couple of weeks now, and have no reason not to believe it despite what some people have posted here. I will admit, however, that my patience has been sorely tested by seeing everyone else get the 2.2 before the Ally does! I just don't understand why the Ally seems to get so little respect - its the Rodney Dangerfield of Android phones! I love my Ally and really wouldn't change to another phone right now for anything.

The Moto Droid has a 550MHz CPU. I believe it does have a dedicated GPU though.

I feel your pain, besides my "Day" job I am a user as well and I'm dieing to get my hands on the 2.2 update... Right now, unfortunately, I don't have any additional information. It is being worked on and I'm keeping my ears open for information I can find...
I'll keep everyone one posted when I get more news. Thanks for your patience.
So, anything new on the Ally getting the 2.2 update? I've been scanning the tech news and haven't heard anything new in about a week.

I found this article that was posted on August 8--->LG Ally 2.2 Update
As of right now there is no info on the update. I hope this helps.
I may be asking a dumb question but if I'm please humor me. Will this new update fix the issues with the ally freezing and re-booting several times a day? My husband, me and my co-work in front of me are all having the same problems with the ally Freezing and re-booting constantly. My husband called and Verizon is sending us two more ally's to try out but I'm thinking if 3 phones are doing the same thing..it may not be a user-related problem. Any help anyone can provide would be wonderful!

LG is currently working on an update for the Ally which will be independent of any Android operating system updates. I wish I could give you a date, I know this is an inconvenience, but all I can say is that it should be soon.
Oh yeah that helps a ton! No information is always GREAT information.....
Come on. This is officially rediculous. Give us the update already.
Lol, well seriously, sometimes it feels like I'm just talking to myself!
Good point!
I specifically bought the Ally because a Verizon rep told me that it had Flash now what?

Return it within 30 days under the Worry Free Guarentee for a different model that DOES have Flash capability, or wait and hope that the Ally will get full Flash capability when it is upgraded to Froyo.
wait when does it come out? i have the ally 2.1 as of december 5th..is there a manual froyo 2.2 install?
At this time there is no information regarding the update available. You will be notified on your device if the update becomes available. Any manual install that is not sent out by Verizon Wireless will void your warranty.
I'm not much of a tech person, and I'm still waiting to be proved wrong, but my senses are telling me it's not gonna happen, even as much as I'd like to have 2.2 I started breathing after having the Ally less than a month, as I had been holding my breath for it.
It doesn't matter if our phones get 2.2 or not Flash won't work because the ally has an arm 6 version processor. Flash 10 was writen for arm7 and above processors.
