Self install of FIOS TV

Could someone give me a reason that during the strike I was contacted by a Verizon rep who said they could send me STB's to hook up myself to my existing FIOS service (internet and phone) and after the strike is over I'm being told there is no such option ? Now I have to wait two weeks for installation and then take a day off from work so a "tech" can come into my house to screw in some connectors and plug STB's into the wall. My whole house is wired for TV which has been working great with my self installed DirecTV.

Why is there no self install option,since I already have the ONT and all I'd have to do would be put in a splitter to connect to my existing wiring?

We would need to send a tech to ensure all of the lines are active and passing a good enough signal strength for the FIOS connection. We would also the incoming port of your main splitter would need to have the direct TV cord taken off and ran to the FIOS ONT.

I understand that the main needs to be connected to the ONT. There is nothing a tech can do that I can't to trouble shoot the wiring in my home. If there is something wrong with the ONT then a tech can come and replace it. I still have no clue what a tech needs to do in a prewired house?????

The other thing is if I get another TV do I need to sit around the house from 8am to 5pm waiting for a tech to hook it up, since you say they have to check the wiring? If this is the case I may rethink getting the TV installed at all.
