DVR Upgrade

I would like to upgrade my multi room DVR to the new, high capacity DVR, but I am concerned that I will lose all of my recorded programming, as well as have to reset all of my scheduled recordings once I receive the new DVR. Is there a way to avoid these hassles?

No, none of the settings or recordings are transferrable. You'll be basiclaly starting from scratch. Sorry, there is no way around it if you want to upgrade your DVR.

"none of the settings...are transferrable": Fortunately not completely true. Before you disconnect the old DVR, go into

Menu ==> DVR ==> Settings ==> Export Series to Cloud

That will save all of your series information somewhere "in the cloud." When you get the new DVR and start to set up your series again, you will (should) be asked if you want to import the series info you exported, and if you say yes, then you will (should) get all of the series information back, without having to re-enter it.

Bobbo527 is correct, your recordings cannot be transferred to the new DVR, so if you want to watch them you need to do so before you disconnect the old DVR.

I believe you can export your 'series settings', and then import them to the new DVR. But recordings, per se, cannot be copied over.

There is no simple way, but you can indeed save your recordings by transferring them to DVD disc using a DVD-R box. You must do this in "real time" by actually playing them on the current DVR and using output from the DVR to feed a separate DVD recorder. Here is what we use:

Note the cloud features are 1.91 and not 1.9. So if you are Cisco, it is correct you must restart from scratch. 1.91 has not been pushed out to Cisco. Only 1.9 Build 10.40. Cisco hardware is nice, and I like it, but the feature set and options always lag behind Motorola. Some of the options I have been told would be coming, and that was six+ months ago. Still no Pandora in our VHO, and many other items are sill not available at 1.9 and Cisco.

I've just turned in my qip7216 for a qip7232. I exported my series manager to the cloud from the 7216 before switching. When I started to re-program the series manager on the new box, I got a message asking me if I wanted to import the series manager settings from my old box. I selected OK and, a few seconds later, I got the message that this had been successful. Only problem is, the Series Manager on the new box (7232) is still empty. A supervisor at Verizon Tech told me you can only export the settings but they do not have a way to import them (doesn't make a lot of sense). So, does anyone know how I can import my Series Manager from the 7216 which, presumably, is 'in the cloud'? This would save an awful lot of time!
