Recent changes in picture quality on non HD????

We recently noticed a change in our picture quality on our non HD channels. Has Verizon changed their non HD channels to HD channnels? When you watch movies its almost like your watching a low budget movie. No settings were changed on our set and we have anon HD box connected to this set. Has the service in our area changed in any way? We are located in Marlton, NJ. Please help as we are trying to determine if this is a problem with our set. Thanks!

There has not been any changes to the quality of the channels we offer. If you are suspecting the TV as being problematic, please temporarily connect another TV to the box to test quality.

Note any specific channel? Some channels, e.g. ESPN and many Locals, have stopped offering SD channels which means that fios has to convert the HD signal to SD in order to offer them. And of course the channel itself may be fiddling with video quality.

Movies downconverted from HD are likely to be somewhat problematic on SD televisions. First the SD content needs to be created, unfortunately the frame rate on movies, and the frame rate on TV's does not match up well, and unless considerable care is taken, the image quality suffers considerably.

High end TV's (even SD) often have specific hardware/firmware to deal with the frame rate problem if they can detect it. Odds are because of the way SD is generated on many channels, it may no longer be detectable, or whatever hardware was in use at the other end for SD to compensate, is no longer in use because many stations no longer provide an SD signal.
