Pausing one channel while I view another

I am having issues with pausing one channel while I view another. For instance, I like to watch channel A until a commercial comes on, then pause, switch to channel B, watch until a commercial, then return to channel A to watch commercial-free more or less.

Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. Also, sometimes I can pause (or back up) a channel for up to one hour and other times when I go back to previous channel, it is in live mode (although I can back up).

Does anyone else have this issue? I have the latest DVR (according to VZ).

I am having the same issue described above, where I pause Channel A, switch to Channel B, switch back to Channel A, and it is paused, but paused at the moment I switched back to Channel A. If you found a solution, I would love to hear it!
