Probably because some TVs and the FiOS STB don't get along well in the HDMI world. I would suggest you try it first and see how it works. Make sure you use a good HDMI cable. I had some problems recently with my old HDMI cable and since I replaced it the HDMI connection (through a receiver by the way) has been flawless.
