DVR show length limit - any way around it?

I tried to record a show today that was seven hours long. When I programmed the DVR, it warned me that the limit was six hours. So I stopped the recording after a couple hours and started it again. Didn't matter. The recording stopped six hours into the scheduled time, ignoring the fact that the recording wasn't six hours long. Is there any way around this? I tried modifying the start time, but it seems that the time can only be set earlier, not later. I'm out of workable ideas. By the way, the DVR is the Cisco 435HDC.

I do not have that DVR model. Setting a program to record from the Guide does not produce that same length limit warning for me. My experience has been that the only time I have received that warning is when I am trying to program a manual recording for longer than 6 hours. When this happens, the DVR gives me the 6 hour maximum warning and then prevents me from setting up the recording. The workaround is to then set up 2 manual recordings to cover the same time period, or go to the Guide and set all the individual shows listed within that time period to record separately.

But this warning prevents me from setting up the recording in the first place. You are saying that it let you set the recording, then limited how long the recording lasted. That is very strange. I live in a 1.9.1, build 14.47 area. Hope that this isn't another software glitch coming in one of the updates.

I set it up from the guide. There was a single 7-hour (I think) show- the US Open. When I stopped the original recording and started a new one, I got the six-hour warning, even though there were only four hours left. I can't find any way to get around the limitation. I don't know if this is a limitation of the DVR or of FIOS. Wouldn't think the DVR would care how long the show is. Suspect this may be a FIOS software issue.

OK, got around it by setting up two manual recordings. Duh. Never had to set one up before with FIOS - always used the guide. More of a pain, but it should work.

Glad that the workaround helped you out. Sucks that you have to use it. I just recorded several 6+ hour sessions of the French Open when it was on with no issues. And to make sure that nothing has changed since then, I just scheduled the U.S. Open tomorrow on NBC with no problem. So I can't tell you what's going on.

The length limit is not a DVR limit that I am aware of (certainly not on my old model). I think the limitation that was placed on the manual recordings was to make sure that you didn't accidentally set up really long recordings that filled the drive. But this should be an Attention message, to make sure you are aware of what you are doing, not something that prevents you from doing what you want to.

Another thing to think about would be to make sure that there is plenty of room on your hard drive. Perhaps your DVR is warning you that you don't have that much room available. I would also try an Auto Correct, just to make sure that your DVR is functioning properly. Then I would call Verizon and see if they have any other suggestions. Who knows, it might be a known issue for that model DVR, or an unintentional glitch in one of their software updates.

It's true that there is a limit concerning manually set record times. However this limit does not apply when scheduling a recording through the guide.

For instance, if you program the US. Open to record and it is 7 hours long it should give you no trouble and record the entire program. However, if you try to manually adjust that time frame (such as starting the recording 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled start time) it will not allow you to record.
