Can't connect to AOL website---but other sites are fine

To whom it may concern.....

Im having a really odd problem here that has been plaguing me for the last 6 months, my wife can not get to www.aol.com on one of the following devices, one of 3 laptops (2 win 1 mac), 2 iphones, 1 ipad or a desktop computer. I have tried rebooting the router several times and no luck, ive tired ie firefox, safari, and opera and no browser can get to the web site I even uninstalled any antivirus or firewall software and nothing. Here is the odd thing though with opera when I turn the "turbo" mode feature for slow internet connection, I can actually get to aol.com and surf but not their webmail and then after a few minutes with the site it will time out eventually. I do notice when going to aol.com its takes a very long time to respond back with a can't get to site. I have tried several ways in getting to the site, with different means, however when I use a cellular 3G/4G connection to any of the admentioned computers I can get to aol.com with no issues mail works fine as if nothing is going on. Now I have a 35mb connection and I just upgraded it to 75Mb speed yesterday (awaiting for it to be turned up) and I also ordered the new actiontec fios modem with gigabit network, is there anything that would be causing me not to get to aol.com from my fios internet?

Hey All.....

Want to thank everyone for the help here with my issue, however I got it corrected, just installed my new fios router and had to call fios support to get it activated. There was something on the connection itself that prevented the new router from activating, once the fios tech reset my internet connection (and after explaining the issue to him) he was well aware of the problem of tracert dropping after iad8.alter.net (i didnt even tell him where it stopped as he knew it right off the top of his head). Once my connection was reset and my fios router initialized, aol.com took about 1.5 sec to load up on ie and now i can run a tracert all the way to net.aol.com (11 hops).

On one of the computers, statically set the DNS Servers to;

8.8.8.8

4.2.2.3

208.67.222.222

and then try to access AOL.Com from that computer.

Can you elaborate a bit more on what this "Turbo" feature is? I don't recall FiOS having one.

Turbo, is a feature with in the opera browser to allow for slower internet connections to cache the information before the connection times out

Gotcha. That's actually a proxy server service which is likely half the reason why you're able to visit AOL.com in the first place when it is turned on.

Try a few things for me if you could in the command prompt. On your computer, go to Start > Run and enter in the program called "cmd.exe" and then press OK. If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, use the Start Menu search box to find the program called cmd.exe and then open it. If you are on Windows 8, visit your Start Menu, type in "Command Prompt" without the quotes and it should appear under either Apps or System Tools.

In the command prompt, do the following commands pressing Enter after each one executes:

nslookup aol.com

nslookup www.aol.com

tracert aol.com

tracert www.aol.com

The traceroute commands will take some time to run as aol.com does not respond to pings. If you see a series of stars repeating for a few lines, press Ctrl + C to end the command early and then proceed onto running the next one.

From this point, right click on the command prompt window and pick select all. Press Enter (or right click and select Copy) and then paste the contents of your command prompt window to either http://www.pastebin.com/ and supply the URL to your paste, OR you may place the contents into a text file and attach the file to your next post.

for my etification, what would it indicate if one could tracert to aol.com but not www.aol.com or vice versa?

Will definately give it a try tonight when I get home, also I just had delivered the upgraded actiontec router (as my internet speed was cranked up today to 75Mbs). Hoping that there something on the older router that could be adding to the issue at hand cause it did work at one point.

Sorry no luck... Tried all different combination of primary secondary and tertiary and nothing. aol.com still doesn't come up.

From what i am reading into the tracert for either aol.com or www.aol.com, once i get past iad8.alter.net, that when the trace dies. from looking at the times the longest responce is 13ms then it dies. starting to wonder if this is the internet link from fios??
