Transfer recordings from regular Samsung dvr to multiroom dvr?

I recently ordered the multiroom dvr and my question is, I still have alot of shows on my standard hd dvr. Is there anyway to transfer them to my new dvr so that I could finish watching them? If I get an HD extender such as the westergn digital one, can I copy whats on the dvr to it and then plug it into the new multiroom dvr? Are there any other ways of doing this?

The 'inputs' on the Verizon DVRs are inoperative. To make a long story short, there is no way to load content onto the Verizon DVR, nor is there anyway to transfer content between Verizon DVR's. The only content that you can store on a Verizon DVR is cable programming delivered by Verizon.

There is no way to "transfer" recordings from one FiOS DVR to another. Once installed, a hard drive extender is paired with one STB and will not work with another.

Depending on which model DVR you currently use, it may be possible to send the output to a DVD recorder and make permanent recordings of your recorded programs in "real time." For example, I can send output from my 7232 to a DVD/VHS recorder and then record selected recordings (in standard definition only). Other than this method, I don't believe you will be able to retrieve the material.

SInce it sounded like you were not trying to archive the old recordings forever, you might be able to talk verizon into letting you delay return of the old box. In other words, don't install the new DVR until you have viewed as much as possible. Even if you end up paying one month's DVR service for the old box, as well as the service fee for the new box while it is not hooked up, it will be cheaper that buying a device to back up the HD programming in standard definition for later viewing.

I've actually been sucessful with a combination of the prior 2 posts. Since I've been with Verizon these many years and started out with those SD boxes I came up with a solution which satifies us both. I'm working on my 10th or 11th STB (6th one with HD box). As I got very tired of going through this process over and over. I really thought they should have switch over to Humax units rather than these Motorola nightmares. anyhow I just order up the new box. Nowhere in my contract does it state I can't hook up as many boxes as I wish, however I will have to pay the additional charges and fees having done so. I simple hook up the new box via athe splitter they started me with and proceeded to activate and setup the new box with all my settings and scheduling extrapolated from the old box and off I go. I can then reconnect my tv to the old box and remove all future scheduling then watch or record to my hearts content or til the box dies completely. This has been seemless except on only 2 ocassions. As all those recordings on the DVR were fine as the recieving end was given to problems resulting it's replacement. As I stated only twice did the box completely die before I returned it.

I also learned that it was prudent to have Verizon remove the old box from my account and router while standing in their drop off location. They had left them on there on several ocassions resulting in confusion when dealing with Tech support as they would end up working on a STB which was no longer in my possession. lol Anyhow I got to watch my recordings whilst the newer ones were cuing up on the new STB. In no way was I able to watch them all but I did see ones I would have truly missed. My main recorded content is from a channel that generally doesn't repeat their programing so this I found the most prudent solution.
