Media Manager Discontinued? How to share pictures to TV?

I was surprised to see that Verizon is taking away Media Manager. It was a great tool to be able to pull up home photos and videos from the computer to the TV screen. What will Verizon be replacing this with after Media Manager is gone, that will carry forward these capabilities?

I haven't heard about a planned replacement from Verizon. But, if you have a WIN7 or WIN8 computer and a DLNA device (BluRay player or TV) you can stream your media from the computer to your TV.

Enable streaming in Windows Media player and turn on sharing. Depending on your receiving device you may need to enable it to automatically connect. Once set up you can initiate streaming from Windows Media player or the receiving device.

Actually Verizon has already release the Verizon Media Server as a trial in some areas (in Maryland? can't remember). Anyways it is sure to be release to everyone else very soon. It is going to act as a whole house DVR and have many more features such as media sharing. Cheers!

I use the media manager to stream you tube to the TV right now. I don't have blue ray. Is there another way to continue doing this? Also, if Verizon is going to be releasing some sort of whole house dvr instead of media manager, are they going to (have the gall to) charge even more every month?

Kam197 this new media server is going to have many more features than their current DVR. You have to realize that it takes a lot of money to roll out new products such as this and it is not feasible to swap out all the current DVRs for the new media server. Because of this I am sure there will be a price difference with the current DVRs and the new media server. It is possible though that they may lower the cost of the regular old DVRs at some point. Also getting the media server is going to require a tech to come out to install all the equipment (there still has to be a small box in every room you want a tv) in the house. So you are probably looking at an install fee and a rental fee for the verizon media server. One thing to consider though is if you have many DVRs in your house right now you may actually be able to save money on your monthly bill by getting the verizon media server, since each DVR has a high rental cost. Obviously though this is all speculation on my part, since it hasn't been officially released I don't know the pricing structure.

Logan 8 - that doesn't sound good cost-wise.

I only have one dvr and one regular stb. If I just forgo using the media manager anymore, do you know if I will I be able to keep my service as is?

Will be a shame to lose streaming my you tube videos.

That sounds like terrible overkill. Most smart tv's have all of this functionality already in software...there is really no need to make this so complicated such that Verizon customers would be charged additional money for such a service. The DVRs permit software upgrades, so I'm not sure why this isn't just done in s/w.
