Poor HD in Pittsburgh

Just wanted to report in that lately I have also noticed a sharp drop in the quality of HD channels. I first noticed IFC in HD looked WORESE than its SD counterpart. Travel Channel HD was also looking pretty bad. Its gotten slightly better but come on, I know when someone is cranking up the compression ratio.

People from all over the country are reporting the same issues at the same time yet somehow its the fault of OUR equipment. It started around last week when an update was pushed and my box rebooted itself.

IFC HD in particular is sent from the broadcaster with a very low bitrate. There is nothing Verizon can do about it; it comes from the broadcaster that way. Other channels affected by this are AMC HD, Fuse HD and Sundance Channel HD.

And how are people supposed to know that? Why doesn't Verizon inform its customers about this in the first place instead of leaving it up to a guess game? The lack of communication continues.

Because, frankly, not that many people notice it.

It isn't Verizon necessarily, as the other posters have stateed, the compnay that owns IFC and AMC transmits in a low bite rate. Thus their HD really looks more SD. It's is NOT the equipment. You should be complaining to AMC Networks, they are the ones responsible (and theya re the ones that took what used to be one of my favorite channels and turned it into an unwatchable joke). I'll spare you my rant on the Independent FILM (that part is laughable) Channel.

So Verizon is supposed to contact you on every single nuance of what is being broadcasted. Don't think so. Yes, their communication sucks, but this complaint is really rather silly. if it was a system problem (which this is not) then I would agree, this is just how AMC Networks operate. On the cheap. You should be complaing to them.
