External storage for my DVR (7216)... HELP!

Hello everyone! I have been trying to follow the posts regarding the set up and purchase of an external hard drive for the 7216 HD DVR... I see that Verizon reccomends using the Western Digital – WDBACS5000EBK-NEVZ – 500GB (or the 1tb model)... My 1st questions is where can I purchase one? I can't seem to find one anywhere online and of course Best Buy is clueless... My 2nd question is... Are there any other eSATA drives' that would work if they are no longer available? I can't seem to get ANY help from calling FIOS and the one rep said I would have to upgrade (extra monthly charge) my box to the newer black models... Can anyone PLEASE help!?! Thank you...

Your 7216 will support an external hard drive as long as you have Img1.9 firmware on the 7216.

As for where to purchase the WD drives, they appear to be currently out of stock, but you can actually order them directly from Western Digital's online store. see

According to WD, BestBuy, CompUSA, Newegg, TigerDirect and a number of other retailers (see http://www.wdc.com/en/buy/) should be able to provide these.

My guess is that production is that the stock issue is related to the flooding in Thailand. In any case, I'd suggest you contact WD at (949) 672-7000 (They are in Irvine California.
