Guide problems = "please wait"

For two days now I can't get any information on the guide. Every channel in the guide says "please wait." I cannot get to any channel by scrolling through the guide. I have to punch in each channel's number separately, or use the channel up/down. When a channel tunes in, I get this message: "Program information unavailable." Then sometimes the channel goes black and I get this message: "Try changing the channel and coming back to this channel. If that doesn't work, press'B'" or words to that effect.
