Close Captioning feature on older TVs

Hi: Does anyone know how to turn off the "Close Captioning" feature on an older TV (not a flat screen)? The instructions using the FiOS Remote Control does not work. The * button is the ON DEMAND button. If you press Menu - you do not get a "Settings" option in order to choose Accessibility/Clsoe Captions and then select either ON or Off and press OK. I have spent an aweful lot of time trying to figure this one out. The "Close Captioning" feature is a great feature but not needed at this time anyway.

You have not provided a lot of detail, but most of the time close captioning processing is done inside the TV set itself, not in the STB. If that is the case, you will need to use set-up on the Television, not on the STB.

For example when I press Mute on the remote (which mutes the TV audio output) it turns on the closed captioning.

Need more information. What box are you using that it doesn't have the option under settings?

If it is the older 2500 standard definition box then there is no setting for CC since the box does not support it directly and it has to be turned off in the TV (not the cable box) menu.

Thank you. The box is a newer box. I believe that you are correct and that the answer is in the TV itself. I am going to try and turn it off with the remote that came with the TV.
