Fios HD Issues during superbowl

I had to watch the superbowl in standard Def! For the past few days my HD channels will randomly drop all sound except for the bass during certain commercials. Once the commercial is over all sound returns to normal. During the pregame show the HD channel had delays (pausing) and pixilization, switched to other HD channels and they appeared to work just fine. It got so bad I finally had to switch to standard def and everything worked as well as standard def works.

I use optical/HDMI cables from STB to Yamaha receiver to Vizio TV. Anyone have any ideas how to address this issue?

If you provide your equipment model numbers, somebody might be able to give you specific advice. Here are some general things to try. Make sure both the TV and Yamaha have the latest firmware updates. Second, try a direct link HDMI from the STB to TV, and if the TV sound is OK, the problem is likely the Yamaha. Just in general terms, HDMI as a standard often has trouble when daisy-chained between various components. There may be a setup routine for your pass-through in the Yamaha menus that needs further scrutiny. A quick check of other forums shows a history of HDMI problems with some Yamaha models.
