FIOS remote control does not operate TV from distance

Has anyone seen this problem and resolved it? The remote will operate my TV functions power & volume, but not from more than 6-7 ft. I have a Sharp 42" LCD

Sign of

• Bad batteries. Decreased distance is a common sign of batteries about to wear out.
• TV IR INTERFERENCE (I know some had trouble with some Sharp models)
• Bad remote
• Bad or obscured TV IR sensor
