Verizon puts out the updates. You cannot update it on your own. You can check the firmware version in Router Status under System Monitoring.
Over at http://www.dslreports.com there is a new thread about a Quantum Gateway Router update. Evidently it’s causing issues and may require a router master reset.
like the other poster said, you cannot update or force update the Verizon company handles that.
