Can you connect a FiOS Quantum Gateway router to a wireless range extender (e.g. Netgear EX-6120)? I can't get the router and extender to recognize each other.
I know you are probably not interested in this, but Verizon sells it's own wireless range extender, the WCB6200Q, for use with the Quantum Gateway. (They actually sell two different ones, but the WCB6200Q has [faster] 802.11ac wireless, which the gateway also has.) It works differently from the Netgear EX6120. The EX6120 is basically a wireless repeater. It recieves a wireless signal and retransmits it - amplifying it in the process. However, it's own repeated traffic takes up a portion of the wireless network bandwidth.
The WCB6200Q connects to any coax cable connection that can be used by FiOS equipment. That is, if the area where the wireless signal is too weak happens to have a FiOS STB for TV or any open coax connection, you can use that (so long as it's connected to the rest of the coax in the house). The WCB6200Q sends traffic over the coax between itself and the FiOS gateway, which keeps repeated traffic down and is also much faster than wireless connections. Not what you asked, but something to keep in mind.
Are we talking specifically about the Netgear EX6120 or just hypothetically? If that is what you have, make sure you've upgraded to the latest firmware, which appears to be EX6120 Firmware Version 1.0.0.26. Assuming you're good to go, you should be able to connect the EX6120 to the FiOS Gateway using either the browser setup method or the WPS method (the FiOS Gateway has WPS). Have you tried both of those with no success?
I would try the browser setup method myself. I would also connect (with an Ethernet cable) a laptop or desktop to the Ethernet port on the EX6120 rather than going wireless to set it up. That way eliminates trying to get wireless between the laptop/desktop/etc. working to the EX6120 while at the same time trying to get wireless between the EX6120 and the FiOS Gateway working. It eliminates one variable.
