Gateway (G1100) Router not functioning

Hi,

A few weeks ago I had set-up my Ubiquiti EdgeRouter as the primary router and my G1100 gateway as a bridge for my STBs and a few other devices off of the gateways LAN ports. Everything worked great and as expected.

However, now the gateway is not working and the globe is flashing white on the front. My STBs still work, but do not have internet access. The devices plugged in through the gateway's LAN do not have internet access either. Notably, the device activity lights adjacent to the LAN ports on my gateway are not lighting up nor is the primary routers LAN to which the gateway is connected. I've attempted unplugging the gateway, resetting with the button the back and restarting my primary router, with no avail. I've also attempted to plug the WAN back into the Gateway, without success (after I released the IP lease). To make matters worse, I cannot access the gateway either from my laptop (just getting the "page is not available").

I was on vacation and came back to this, so certainly I could have had a power surge of some sort, but am now at a loss.

The best way to set your system up is to use the Verizon supplied router as primary, then setup the other router in Access Point Mode.

this way the coaxial for the set top boxes is correct for the guide etc.

the secondary router in access point mode will handle the ip assignments and you can just purchase a switch if you need more LAN connection from the secondary router.

if set properly the Verizon routers LAN ports are also fully usable.

why do things backwards?

Yes, I could have done it that way as well; however, with the amount of devices I had connected to the Gateway as the primary, I noticed a significant drop in speed in comparison to my EdgeRouter. With my setup I had complete access to Guide, VOD and remote DVR, so it didn't make sense to have the Gateway as my primary. Even with the Gateway as my primary router now, it still doesn't correct the issue I'm having.

The best way to actually set up in your case is:

ONT Ethernet cable to wan port on Verizon router as primary, Verizon LAN port #1 to use ethernet cable to your personal routers wan port, after this is done make sure to put your personal owned router into access point mode. The router now assigns the ip assignments to connect on your network. It is a good idea to turn off wifi on the Quantum G1100 router and use the better wifi from your own router.

on your router I would hook up to #1 LAN port on your personal router via ethernet to a switch. I keep a spare switch just in case I need to have a physical connection to my network. This way leave the LAN ports on the Quantum Gateway Router (3 left) alone.

You will find by going this route you still have set top box guides etc. video on demand and remote DVR from the Quantum G1100 and a great access point on your own.
