Wow! Am I furious! I live in a secure building of 75 apts. About a month ago, there was a knock at my door and it was 2 Verizon Salespeople. One was a trainee. I told them there was no soliciting here but they said they had the manager's permission-which is known to happen.
They charmed their way into my apt in spite of the fact that I told them I wasn't interested in changing companies right now. I'd been with Comcast for many years and was happy with them. Well they started to talk "bundles" and "promotions" - which were very intriguing. One of the things that interested me was their bundle included more for quite a bit less money per month. I continued to listen and look over the information while he talked. The "big promotion" was that if I switched over to them and made my installation appointment that night, I would receive $300 in VISA gift cards - and because I lived in an apt. complex with over 6 apts in one building, there'd be an extra $100 gift card.
Well, let me tell you very briefly - I am disabled, in a wheelchair and in kidney failure. It's obvious that I'm not well. So the promise of having $400 in gift cards for Christmas was something I couldn't turn away from. With the cost of everything these days and living on social security, there's always too much month left at the end of the money - if you know what I mean. So to have a little extra for presents for the kids was very exciting. After all, it could be the last Christmas I have with them. The salesman told me they'd send them out as soon as I paid my first bill. Well, I got my first bill and paid it promptly over 2 weeks ago - but still haven't rec'd any gift cards. So tonight I called Verizon Customer Service to find out when they'd be coming.
The CSR was a very nice gentleman , who promptly informed me that the package I signed up for didn't qualify for that promotion. My heart sunk. I'd been looking for forward to it. He told me I needed to sign up for a 2 year contract with "this and that" - which is what I signed up for! My records indicated something different. I could either step up to the proper bundle and I would then qualify for $300 in VISA gift cards, however the month or so that I had already been online with them didn't count towards that promotion. In essence, I was starting from day 0 today. Then he proceeded to tell me that I would get my gift card somewhere between January 13th and February 12th next year!! Well what help is that going to be to me for THIS CHRISTMAS? All the promises! All the bullcrap! I asked - well, what about the extra $100 card for living in a "multi"building?? He said they have NEVER had such a promotion and it won't be honored. Basically, I should be happy that I'm getting the $300. I AM ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS!! I feel used, manipulated and lied to! And worse yet, as an obviously sick and disabled person, I feel like a JERK for being ripped off. I feel like an injured gazelle on the Saranghetti and they're the hungry lions who needed to eat!
I am so angry that I have NO recourse, that I won't get what was promised to me! Verizon is a HUGE wealthy company and they won't do anything to keep their end of the bargain. I'm on my own! Worse yet, I'm on my own with dreams of a wonderful Christmas that'll never happen. Thank you VERIZON!
