FIOS Quantum Gateway Channel Selection/Channel Width

After setting up the Quantum Gateway, I made some changes to its Wi-Fi channel settings. After using the WiFiAnalyser app, I determined that the best channel for my router would be 6 on 2.4G and 36 on 5.0G. The router initally chose 6 on Auto mode, but I wanted to make sure it remained on 6, so I changed it manually. After the change, I noticed that the router had changed its channel width on 2.4G from 20 to 40. When I returned it to Auto it returned to 20. On the 5.0G network, the channel width remains 80 regardless of Auto or manual, so this question mainly pertains to the 2.4G frequency band. Is there a way to lock the channel on 6 without broadcasting a double-wide frequency?

Unfortunately from what I've seen, there is no manual control over the channel width.

This is especially concerning for 5 GHz, as now all Verizon routers scream with 80 MHz wide channels in the 5 GHz band. I'm hoping that Verizon will listen to suggestions and offer manual control over channel width in the future via a firmware update.

If you do want to have full control over your wireless, you could look into getting an access point, turning off the G1100's wireless, and use the access point as the main wireless device.

I have g1100 and have channel set to 4. WiFi analyzer shows bw to be 22mhz.

maybe try another channel just to see if it is an issue with 6 or in general.

and I have a dlink router as an ap. It shows 40mhz

Karen: I am going to give you a suggestion in that if you want better control over your hardware I would go and get a Netgear Router with dual band,tri band, Quad band etc as the bands go the high end ones always have more options.

you then set it to access point mode with the Verizon Fios router, then after it's up and functional you then access the Fios router and turn off the wifi. This will then only be used for dns and your own supplied router will provide the IP address distribution as well as superior wifi performance. Please note although I recommend Netgear as the manufacturer there are other companies out there with routers just as good.

They are priced high end like my Nighthawk R8500 and there is another new router by Netgear even higher end than mine. Check out CNET for their reviews of the best routers for 2017 and then see if you want to spend that much for your router.
