First Impression of Verizon

I signed up yesterday to Verizon looking to change from my current provider. I'm tired of having slow internet because we use alot of device at home. They told me that the earliest appointment for set up is at Sep 5 BUT they said if I were to do a SELF installation I can get my service started right away, so I choose to do a self installation and canceled my other service on the very same day I signed up. Return the equipment and everything. I travelled all the way to a store to get the router I purchased and now I found out from another representative that I needed a technician to set my internet up for me. Like WHY on earth offer a self installation. TOLD ME THATS ITS GOING TO BE EASY AND TOLD ME EVERYTHING IS IN THE BOX WITH INSTRUCTION. When I didnt find any instructions nor self installation is even do able. I canceled my other service because of misinformation now I have to wait till September 6 for a technician to come. NO INTERNET FOR A WHOLE WEEK. I DIDNT SIGN UP TO GET THE CHEAP STUFF. I SIGNED UP TO GET A BETTER SERVICE ONLY TO FACE A HORRIBLE ONE. Way to go Verizon.

Its not verizons fault you cancelled your other service prior to the written date.

in the self install you need the FiOS Quantum Gateway and there should be an ONT at your location with either a coaxial cable or ethernet cable or both at your address which only needs to be set up with the router. You did not say if you also have tv and phone service. If you do the verizon installer will need to be there.

If your premise is not wired already then self install is not an option.

in this case it was a miscommunication on both your parts. The service (i have Internet only) is pretty good. After it’s installed this will be just a memory.

I asked multiple time what I need to do for the self installation. They said it's like a "plug and play" and that the instructions are in the box. I told them that I only had internet and I am cancelling my old provider. I asked what I need before I cancelled my old provider and all I got was "its doable and its easy" no need to worry and stuff... hows that even fair?

I wouldnt mind waiting for that long if they didnt push the "self installation " offer.

I wouldnt have canceled my other provider either. Sigh I have project due and now be a big inconvenience to have.

If you are internet only it is very easy as long as the optical network terminal (ont) is active at your home, there is a ethernet cable coming into your home and the ont is active with electric. If so then you would take your sent router and turn it on, then if ethernet connection you take it from the ont and plug it into the WAN port on your verizon fios or customer owned router. Wait for all lights to stop blinking and that you have a solid white globe showing. You then follow the instructions on the self install sheet as to hook your computer into a LAN port and go to the fios account set up portal. After its set up and registered you have internet.

i am assuming the install is not MOCA (coaxial) since verizon only does ethernet connections today. Moca would be used separately for tv
