External HDD to a Fios Quantum VSM100 box?

When will I be able to connect an external HDD to a Fios VSM100 box? I made the mistake of upgrading to Quantum without checking if I could still use an external HDD. The box has the eSATA port but it does not work. WHY ?????? Come on Verizon, now I'm paying more money for less. If you want to use an external HDD on a DVR do not upgrade to Quantum till Verizon make this function available.

Verizon has said for now, no access.

They believe that quantum meets or exceeds the offerings of other providers.

Keep in mind that if you have to change DVR, you would lose everything on the external drive.
