my dvr is slow to respond to my remote if at all. on-line search shows others have same issue

What model DVR do you have?
Have you rebooted DVR?
Changed the batteries in the remote?
FiOS remotes are direction sensitive. Need to be pointed fairly directly at DVR with no obstructions.
