Router red light is on (1st time since 2014), says change battery. How do I do that?
Wasn't aware that any FIOS routers had batteries. Which model do you have.
Ont's can have battery backup. And you can get those quite a bit cheaper from someone other than Verizon, or even just remove it and run without one.

Let's take part of the other posters answer and expand on it.
may it be that the change battery notification is sent to the router because the battery back up is next to where the cable for your internet is next to a wall or basement?
just an idea. You could look it up for your router type. I did not see you mention any model. Here is for the Quantum G1100 http://www.verizon.com/about/sites/default/files/fios-qgr-userguide140925.pdf
