how do i lock out unsubscibed channels so i dont go thru them while surfing
Menu>>Settings>>System>>Favorite Channels

There's actually a filter for that,
Menu > Settings > System > Television.
Enable Genre's and filters and also enable Last Viewed Guide state (at the very bottom)
Then when you're in the guide, hit your options button on your controller. you'll have several filters and one of them is for subscribed channels only.
