Hi community,
I have a problem with my westell 6100 modem (originally provided from verizon) and I want to see if anyone can help me to figure what is the best option to proceed.
My westell 6100 modem is not working recently. Currently after power is turned off and then on,The power light keeps to appear as "red" and ther other lights (for internet, ethernet and DSL) do not light up as green as they would normally do. When this happens, my internet connection via verizon would be down. This has happended during the entire 1 and 1/2 week. prior to today.
I called verizon tech support, they told me that the specific manufacturing model of my modem ( #: c90-610015-06 ) is so outdated that it is not longer under warranty. So they gave me 2 choices :
choice 1: pay an extra amount of money ( not sure how much exactly yet, but tech support believes that it is about
$1 to $2 per month for every month my verizon home DSL account is open) for the extended warranty. when I agree to this and pay the money, they will ship me a free 6100 modem , with a more recent manufacturing model. But I am not sure how long would this "new" westell 6100 modem .would last because the modem they give me might be brand new or it might just be a refurbished one.
choice 2: buy a modem on my own that would have to work, or at least have the capacity to work, specifically with the verizon DSL interface. It is recommended by the tech support that I should just buy aother westell 6100 , but as far as I know, westell 6100 is handeled directly by verizon adn no new modem of this model is supposed to be for sale by verizon. So I might have to end up buying a used westell 6100 from somewhere, or I would have to find an alternative modem to use with verizon.
Did anyone experience similar issue before? Which one is better option ? Is it true that I can only use westell 6100 modem for my verizion DSL connection ? If not, can anyone suggest any alternative that would work with verizon DSL ? I don't mind to find out the specifics to configure an alternative modem so that it can be connected with verizon DSL, if anyone can point me to the right direciton.
I don't understand why verizon has to make this so difficult? Can they just provide me with the proper equipment so that I can simply use their DSL service?
I used to have high-speed internet from my cable company, and whenever I have problems with the cable modem, the cable compnay come to my house to fix and/or replace the cable modem without extra charge to me. Why does veizon have to make it so that they are not willing to replace a DSL modem unless I pay extra money ?
Until this issue is resolved, my DSL internet connection and DSL verizon is no use for me, and I am still paying verizon for the DSL serverice for the past 2 weeks wihout ever able to use the service.
