Use Actiontec mi424wr Rev I with G1100 to get gigabit speed

I have been using a G1100 in my living room with an old WCB3000N hooked up in my basement as a wired connection for a desktop PC. That WCB3000N only gets me about 150Mbps, with the G1100 getting closer to that 1Gbps upstairs. I do this to at least get a more stable connection where that desktop is.

I have an old Actiontec mi424wr Rev I lying around, so I followed some instructions to put it in bridge mode, thinking I could use that instead of the WCB3000N to get higher than the 150Mbps I get currently. After setting it up, I am only getting about the same 150Mbps. What am I doing wrong? i thought the mi424wr could be used for Moca 2.0?

That is correct. You can get a used G1100 from Ebay for under $40, but its MoCA interface is capped at 500Mbps. Please make sure the used router has Verizon firmware. You can learn how to bridge the G1100 by using the newly released interactive guide to the page's right. Thanks.

Actiontec MI424WR has MoCA 1.1 only, so it is like the WCB3000N. You only get 175Mbps from MI424WR if you uplink it to G1100 using MoCA. G1100's MoCA interface is unbonded 2.0, and it is capped at 500Mbps. I am not sure how fast you would like your desktop PC to get. If you want 1.0Gbps on MoCA, you need to buy a pair of bonded MoCA 2.0 adapters to overcome the MoCA bottleneck on both the MI424WR and the G1100. You could buy a pair of MoCA 2.5 adapters too, but I won't recommend them unless you want 2.5Gbps throughput inside the house.

So to summarize: If you want 1Gbps MoCA throughput, a pair of bonded MoCA 2.0 adapters are required. I recommend either two Fios Network Adapter (also called FNA or ECB5240M, $55 each exclusively from Verizon), OR two WCB6200Q (Verizon or Actiontec brand is fine, $120 each from Verizon, or $30-40 each used from Ebay).

Also, since you are a gigabit subscriber, are you eligible for a free G3100 rental? If you have a G3100, you only need one MoCA 2.5 adapter to get 1Gbps though coax. Unfortunately, at this time, I can't recommend a MoCA 2.5 adapter because many products on the market have hardware and software defects. I would wait until goCoax releases their MA2500D in the coming weeks to make a recommendation.

I'm actually not renting the G1100 I have now... I had bought it used a couple of years ago, with the hopes of saving on the rental cost each month.

To confirm, if I was to get a second G1100 and put that in bridge mode, I'd be capped at the 500ish mbps?
