Need to fax right from my PC

Is there anything special I need to do or any special fax modem I need to buy in order to "print to fax" from my Windows 7 PC? I do not have a dedicated fax machine. I used to fax over my DSL, but now that I have FiOS, I have no idea what to do.

Step-by-step instructions, please. Thank you.

Just to make sure I am understanding this correctly. You do not have a dedicate fax machine and you are faxing over the Internet? If this is true, what error are you receiving when you attempt to fax?
