Internet Disconnects Every Few Minutes [Please Help]

Hello I have a Zoom DSL X5V VoIP Gateway and my ISP is Verizon. Every few minutes my internet will disconnect for a while and then connect again. This is becomming very frequent and I can't do anything on the internet without getting disconnected. I tried resetting the router/modem, I tried unplugging and replugging and I tried different wires, nothing works! I had this problem with my old modem/router which was a Westell except it was more severe and I couldn't even go on the internet. Can someone please help me? I'm fed up with this disconnection issue and I want stable internet.

Thanks in advance, I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Does your new DSL modem have a diagnostic tool to test what your download and upload readings are at?

Hi I'm not sure what that means, can you please elaborate?

Please post your modem stats. It should give you the current download and upload readings of your DSL line.

#1 In your router, go to Advanced.

#2 Take a screen shot of what you see, save it and post it.

As an example of how to take a screen shot, save it, and upload it...

a) Press the print screen button.

b) Then go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Paint.

c) Press the CTRL and V keys at the same time OR go to Edit -> Paste.

d) Now go to save as

e) Be sure to use save as file type, and select JPG/JPEG.

f) Save the file.

g) Then use http://tinypic.com/ - Or when replying just above View discussion in a popup, it says Add Attachments.

#1 Ok, by looking at your screens.

The second screen is the "modem status"

#2 In the meantime while waiting for others to reply, here is what that stuff means...

Margin = Signal to noise margin. 6 is pretty bad possibly unusable at times, 20 is very good. You normally want 12dB or better IIRC from back in my DSL days. The higher the number, the better to a point.

Line Attenuation = Measure the amount the signal has degraded. Below 20dB is excellent, above 50 is poor, fill in the dots for anything in between.

Transmit Power = The higher the number, the more power is required to transmit. This number will vary based on the other numbers.

Same issue here.

I have been on hold since 9:58 (now 10:45) and someone picked up the phone and put me back in "Q"

I have been having this issue for 3 months and have been on the phone with them many time and now one has been able to fix this problem. I have a Mac and PC connect. I have tried both directly and wireless and my connection still cuts out.

Is it time for a class action law suit to get our money back to pay the contract cancellation fee?

Well I called and I'm going to FiOS and see if that changes anything.

Fios should be better because it doesn't have the same distance restriction as DSL and the speeds are much faster.

For a good month, DSL service has been pretty stable with rare disconnects. But within the last week and up till now and ongoing, DSL internet has been REALLY unstable. It is definitely frustrating as I can't get ANY WORK done. And it sucks that we're stuck with this **bleep** 1 year obligation.. feels like being blackmailed for a service that is never stable.

Verizon, if you don't want to lose your customers and your great reputation, you need to step up your service and repair.

I'm from Queens, NY too! Maybe something is going on in queens with DSL. I'm guessing everyone is disconnecting... Todays internet went pretty smoothly with only a few disconnects. I hope when I switch to FiOS next Thursday It will be completely stable, otherwise I'm going to switch to another ISP.

I live in Queens and my DSL works fine. That has nothing to do with it. You are either too far for the speed you are provisioned at. There is something wrong with the quality of your line or you don't have it setup correctly

I'm sure my set up is 100% correct as it has worked in stable condition for a month.

So Verizon needs to do their part on fixing the lines and making it more stable. That is what I am paying for.. their service, not interrupted service that can potentially make me lose my job.

I have just discovered these forums and thank God. I thought I was nutso but it turns out if I am than thousands of others are also looney. I had heard many were haveing this problem locally (OHIO) but by reading this forum I see the same issues going on from MASS to ILL and to be honest I became quite aggravated. So I picked several messages and e-mailed them to support@verizon.net along with a personal message.......

"Do you guys ever read this forum. If not maybe you should and then you could stop wasting thousands of peoples valuable time (on hold or reset this or let us test that) when you evidently know or should have known that the problem is yours and yours alone. When will Verizon decide to put resources to resoving this problem? You are collecting (I am sure for some) a premium price for unlimited internet service that we have in fact not had since at least February(again read the forums). How does Verizon intend to compensate these customers for supplying only limited (very) services as well as my personal time (which is valued quite high) that you have wasted? C'mon verizon.........GET A GRIP!!!!"

IF YOU ARE AS FRUSTRATED AS MYSELF, THEN LETS FLOOD SUPPORT WITH LOTS OF THESE JUST CLICK ON OPTIONS THEN E-MAIL TO A FRIEND, THEN SEE ABOVE. Maybe when they see we are not lambs to be led to slaughter but sheep chasing down the shepherd will they finally resolve this. Last note... I am serious as heck about the compensation.

I will like to tell you all that the FiOS people just came today and is doing what they're suppose to do. I have try out the FiOS service for a day or so and report back here to tell you if the disconnection is over.
