Accessing VM

I just got a new phone for Christmas and it has an answering machine attached to the main handset. When someone calls and the phone isn't answered, it goes to that answering machine and not to the Verizon voicemail service. How can I get that set up so when I get calls, it goes to the voicemail service and not the answering machine? Thanks

Your new phone should have a button or a setting to turn "answer off" . For exact instructions, please refer to the documentation that came with your phone or contact their tech support group.
