Big differences in various speed test results

I have Fios 1 GB service. I tested internet speed on Verizon speed test site. it show me download 950 mb and upload 920 mb. It sounds good. Then I tested on 6 -7 other speed test sites. They all show me that download speed 53-59 mb, upload 34-45 mb. What is this big difference between Verizon site and other popular speed test sites? Does Verizon use some technologies to fool customer? Their promosed internet service speed could not reache to what they promised? Who can provide me more information? Thanks

Verizon's speed test may use UDP to perform the test, and the way it tests may be a little different from an Ookla test. But what you see on the Verizon speed test is what is being delivered. There may be other factors that can cause slower speeds, like a recent issue with IPv6 Checksum offloading, QoS on your router, or an issue with something like packet loss occurring on the network.

While network speed is not guaranteed, once the traffic leaves the ISP's network they can not guarantee the speed that you will get.

Thanks for all of your replies. It seems that Verizon has done what they promised. All issues are caused by other factors. However, the difference is too big. Think about it. 950MB from Verizon and 50 MB from other speed test sites. All other speed test sites are cheating customers and Verizon is the only one who provide the best products to customer. If a company monopoly the market, what the customer can do because they rely on internet service everyday.

Why don't you actually upload a big file onto Google Drive to see the actual upload rather than relying on speed tests? Uploading to OneDrive is no good because, unless you have OneDrive business, you will be capped around 300-400 Mbps by Microsoft.

For this kind of "speed test" to be useful, you need a quite large file like 1-2GB.
