Trouble With SMTP-PLEASE HELP!!

I am new to Verizon. I currently have DSL and 3 phone lines in my home. I am having problems with Outlook 2007. My incoming mail servers have nothing to do with Verizon. They are associated with the domains of businesses I own. I am trying to set up my SMTP. Nothing I have tried seems to work. Can anyone please walk me through the steps to set up my outgoing mail server so I don't have to sit on hold with Verizon for 2 hours? Thanks in advance!

While Verizon has no issues with off network POP servers, if you are a residential customer, you are pretty much forced to utilize Verizon's SMTP servers. They block access to off network SMTP servers as a measure to prevent SPAM.

This is a polite way of saying that unless your SMTP server is on the Verizon Network, you cannot access it with residential service. You are going to have to use Verizon's SMTP servers to send messages if you have residential service..

That's not actually true. They block access on port 25, but any other port that the SMTP server is configured to use should work just fine.
