Dsl Splitter Install

Hi I have Dsl thru earthlink, but verizon is the vender and my home phone company. I am interested in having a tech come out and install a dsl splitter inside the NID box that will seperate my phone line from my dsl line. Who at Verizon would I need to contact to get more information on this and possibly setup an appointment for the install? I've already tried the residential dsl 1-800 number on the website and was transfered to 3 different reprenstatives none of which seemed to fully understand what it is I was asking for. My zip code is 18708, If anyone can provide a local number I can call or some insight into who I should contact it would be greatly appreciated. Also what is the typical cost of this type of job?

I wouldn't know what the cost would be for such a job to be performed by the Telephone company, but what might ring a bell with the phone agents is by mentioning a "Whole House DSL Filter, Home Run, or DSL Splitter" while in the call. The Splitters cost what, $15 online for outdoor units (I can get these for free), and a length of CAT3 cabling costs no more than $20. I suppose if you can't get a Verizon tech out to install a filter, you could get someone who knows how to do telephone wiring to install it for you, or heck you can even do it yourself for as long as you do not mess around with the copper drop from Verizon or the NID itself. There's plenty of guides online to help you.

Eh I think Im going to try and install it myself, with the help of my father who has experience with wiring.

The room I would like the modem to be placed is in an upstairs bedroom. I'm also not sure what type of filter I need.

Any input that anyone can provide that will help me with getting this done would be greatly appreciated.

Once the splitter is installed, you shouldn't need any additional filters inside of the house since that would all be getting done out at the NID. The only thing I do suggest doing is to run a dedicated CAT3 line to the location of the modem, which would be the unfiltered portion of the line. It will ensure that anything wrong with the home's wiring (if you decide to use the second pair inside of the cabling) won't affect the DSL service, plus it makes troubleshooting easier.
